    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$799.84 billion compares to USD$756.46 billion a year ago, representing a 5.73% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 50% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$998.7 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$998.7 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2016, nearing the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 March 2017, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$11.544 trillion compares to USD$11.472 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.63% increased in 3 months period. The USD$11.544 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.330 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,213.732 billion for multifamily residences.

    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$$11.452 trillion compares to USD$11.111 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.07% increased in 12 months period. The USD$$11.452 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.266 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,186.655 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2015, 776,824 payday loans amounted to USD$300,903,558 were made at Washington by 214,099 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 448,792 payday loans amounted to USD$178,574,512 were made by 234,272 customers in 2015.



  • As at 30 September 2017, there are USD$63.475 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$32.161 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 3, 2017(July, August and September), a 4.82% increase compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 30 September 2017, there are 208 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$198 billions(USD$188 billions for purchases and USD$10 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 3, 2017(July, August and Septembe). There are 593 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2017, generating USD$508 billions(USD$466 billions for purchases and USD$42 billions for cash advances) for Q3, 2017.

    As at 30 September 2017, there are 49.5 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$176.4 billions for Quarter 3, 2017(July, August and September). There are 63.4 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2017, generating USD$95.5 billions total card billed business for Q3, 2017.

    As at 30 June 2017, there are 337 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$463 billions(USD$449 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 3, 2017(July, August and September) in the United States. There are 732 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2017. USD$700 billions(USD$646 for purchases and USD$54 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 3, 2017 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 30 June 2017, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$1.983 trillion compares to USD$1.961 trillion as at 30 March 2017, representing a 1.12% increased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 31% or USD$618.86 billion of the total outstanding USD$1.983 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 June 2017, an increase of 19.57% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$614.40 billion, an increase of 1.44% compares to USD$605.66 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 August 2017, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$81.179 billion, an increase of 0.07% or CAD$58 million compares to CAD$81.121 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 August 2017, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$100.614 billion, an increase of 0.09% or CAD$95 million compares to CAD$100.519 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2016, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 3.43% to 75.3 millions. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2016 in Canada up by 5.46% to CAD$452.36 billions(CAD$$419.85 billion purchases and CAD$32.51 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 4.49% to 75,300,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2016 in Canada up by 6.87% to CAD$444.45 billions, with 10.55% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 August 2017, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 7,702,952 of main cardholders and 1,393,586 for supplementary cardholders with S$24.0 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 7,818,154 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 2.82% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.47% to 1,438,589. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2016, total card billings amounted to SGD$49.90 billion.



  • As at 30 September 2017, there are 41,405,324 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 27,668,403 cards are active. A total of 455,945 cards is issued in the month of September 2017. The total credit cards spending for September 2017 in Taiwan is NT$216.54 billion, made up of NT$214.21 billion in purchases and NT$2.33 billion in cash advance.

    As at 30 September 2017, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$7.845042 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$108.761 billions), an increase of NT$27.187 billions or 0.35% compares to NT$7.817855 trillions as at 31 August 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.67% to 40,701,606, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2016 in Taiwan is NT$2.422 trillions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, there are 16,607,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 64,000 or 0.39% in 3 months period(compares to 16,543,000 as at 30 September 2016). The rollover amount stood at HKD$22,734 millions as at 31 December 2016.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 19,184,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, a decrease of 0.11% compares to a quarter ago. 151,686,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q4,2016, generating HKD$167.236 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 563,940,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$611.992 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 1.19% or 224,000 to 19,044,000 as at 31 December 2015, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2015, a total of 520,977,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$595.405 billions.



  • As at 31 January 2017, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 20,367,952, with 44.335 millions transactions amounting to THB156 billions recorded in January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 7.18% to 21,762,275. And the total credit cards spending for 2015 in Thailand continue to rise by 6.03% to THB1,724 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2017, there are 121 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 6 months ended 30 June 2017, 68,102,887 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND173,194 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 11.54% or 11.48 millions to 111 millions. 97,486,078 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2016, generating VND250,009 billions.



  • As at 31 August 2017, there are 32.65 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for August 2017 in India is INR366.03 billions, out of 115.99 millions transactions.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2017, a total of 316.69 millions credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR953.77 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in India increase by 24.48% to 28.32 million. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in India up by 31.10% to INR3,011.66 billions, with 32.58% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2017, there are 16,899,174 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for August 2017 in Indonesia is IDR25,100,380 millions, out of 27,017,216 transactions(26,314,812 recorded for purchases with IDR24,330,509 millions in value and 702,404 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR769,871 millions in value).
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2017, a total of 80,741,566 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR72,011,994 millions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 3.22% to 17,406,327. The total credit cards transactions for 2016 in Indonesia up by 0.17% to IDR281,020,518 millions, with 8.43% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2017, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 8,385,507 for main cardholders and 1,018,713 for supplementary cardholders, with 34.2 million transactions amounting to MYR$10.5 billion recorded in the month.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR36,221.117 millions as at 30 June 2017, an increase of 0.78% compares to previous month. MYR9,704.874 millions credit card loans disbursed in June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 6.58% to 9,178,458. And the total credit cards spending for 2016 in Malaysia continue to rise by 5.15% to MYR118.5 billions, out of 383.8 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2017, there are 16,717,777 cardholders in Australia, with 228,597,670 transactions amounting to A$27.67 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 30 September 2017, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,685.902 billions, an increase of 0.29% compares to A$1,681.108 billions as at 31 August 2017

    As at 31 December 2016, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,626.034 billions, an increase of 6.85% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 July 2017, there are 97,681,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 89,374,000 personal credit cards and 8,307,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of July 2017, 1,052,496,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW59.281563 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 2.73% to 95,639,000. Personal credit cards increase by 3.34% while corporate credit card decrease by 3.55%. A total of KRW675.76 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2016, out of 10.66 billions transactions.



  • For the month of July 2017, JPY4.55 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY4.42 trillion for purchases and JPY0.13 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2015, the number of credit cards in Japan decrease by 3.11% to 258.90 millions. The total credit card transactions for 2015 increased by 7.69% to JPY49.83 trillions.



  • As at 30 September 2017, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$6.853 billion(an increase of NZD$69 million or 1.02% compares to NZD$6.784 billion as at end of August 2017). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for September 2017 is NZD$3.504 billion(NZD$2.976 billion for domestic spending and NZD$528 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in China increase by 7.60% to 465.0349 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2016 in China up by 2.72% to CNY56,498 billions, with 32.03% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 30 June 2017, there are 6,132,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 69.364 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 2, 2017(April, May and Jun), generating NOK46.078 billions.
    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2017, 131.103 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK86.860 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway increase by 1,006,000 or 7.34% to 14,704,000 as at 31st December 2015, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.76% in volume and 4.98% in value.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 6,185,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 681,000 or 12.37% compares to 5,504,000 in the end of 2014. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2015, a total of NOK130.8 billions recorded from 179.20 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 30 September 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Norway stood at NOK72,994 million, an increase of NOK142 millions or 0.19% compares to NOK72,852 millions as at 31 August 2017.



  • As at 30 September 2017, there are 58.914 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £65.163 billions. The total credit cards spending for September 2017 in UK is £12.889 billions, out of 238.850 millions transactions. There are 532,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,168 millions recorded in September 2017.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2015 increase by 18.48% to £567.5m, 66.93% or £379.8m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £187.7m or 33.07% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.90% to 59,877,000 as at 31st December 2015(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £166.27 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 August 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans n United Kingdom stood at €144,953 millions, a decrease by €3,696 millions or 2.49% compares to €148,649 millions as at 31 July 2017.



  • As at 31 May 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €187,932 millions, an increase by €1,690 millions or 0.91% compares to €186,242 millions as at 30 April 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 12.80% to 4,968,840. The total cards spending for 2015 in Germany rised by 10.89% to €5.70 billions, out of 87.29 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €16,949 millions, a decrease by €65 millions or 0.38% compares to €17,014 millions as at 31 May 2017.

    As at 31 March 2017, there are 6,246,963 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2017, 39.022 millions transactions is recorded, generating €3.703 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2016, there are 6,296,775 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 158.851 millions transactions is recorded, generating €14.446 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 8.65% to 5,436,000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Netherlands rised by 7.46% to €14.4 billions, with 12.46% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2016, there are 293,100 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 30.13% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 September 2017, there are 24,306,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(87,000 or 0.36% higher compares to 24,219,000 as at end of August 2017), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK78.668 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Sweden increase by 3.59% to 8,946,900. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Sweden continue to rise by 18.87% to €18.9 billions(out of 362 millions transactions).

    As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €21,339 millions, an increase by €83 millions or 0.39% compares to €21,256 millions as at 30 June 2017.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 49.88 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 1.13 millions or 2.32% compares to 48.75 millions as at 31st December 2016. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2017, 777.427 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €30,327.46 millions.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 48.75 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.93 millions or 8.77% compares to 44.82 millions as at 31 December 2015. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 3,045.590 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €124,406.51 millions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 8.72% to 49,089,700. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Spain increase by 5.99% to €67.2 billions, with 6.92% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €74,786 millions, an increase by €65 millions or 0.09% compares to €73,038 millions as at 30 June 2017.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €9,034 millions, a decrease by €94 millions or 1.03% compares to €9,128 millions as at 30 Jun 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 2,276,100 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2016 is €300 million, out of 2.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €15,034 millions, an increase by €159 millions or 1.07% compares to at €14,875 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 2,098,700 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2016 is €3.5 billions, out of 63.8 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €157,303 millions, an increase by €1,614 millions or 1.04% compares to at €155,689 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 4,751,700 credit cards in France, generating €13.3 billions from 254.4 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €92,791 millions, an increase by €703 millions or 0.76% compares to €92,088 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy decrease by 10.41% to 24,043,700. However, the total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Italy increase by 15.16% to €62.3 billions, with 18.97% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,286 millions, an increase by €283 millions or 1.77% compares to €16,003 millions as at 31 May 2017.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 57 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK39.280 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 1.32% to 1,855,128. The total cards spending for 2016 in Denmark increase by 8.16% to DKK39.280 billions(€5.3 billions), with 8.16% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €38,699 millions, a decrease by €457 millions or 1.17% compares to €39,156 millions as at 31 May 2017.

  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Poland increase by 1.33% to 5,884,700. The total cards spending for 2016 in Poland rise by 10.67% to €8.3 billions, with 14.99% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €19,176 millions, an increase by €281 millions or 1.49% compares to €18,895 millions as at 30 April 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Austria decrease by 4.30% to 1,356,760. The total cards spending for 2015 in Austria lowered by 1.69% to €5.22 billions, with 0.91% decrease in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, there are 6,499,744 cardholders in Switzerland, with 36,044,000 transactions amounting to CHF$3.567 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 2.49% to 6,345,971. A total of 344.65 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2016 with CHF$36.82 billions in value.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 1,311,158 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2017, 22,115,589 credit card transactions recorded in Hungary, generating HUF155,049 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 78,555,263 credit card transactions recorded in Hungary, generating HUF616,886 millions in value.

    As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,931 millions, an increase by €140 millions or 1.80% compares to €7,791 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 1.92% to 1,356,000. The total cards spending for 2016 in Hungary rise by 14.84% to €1.9 billions, with 16.84% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €8,678 millions, an increase by €92 millions or 1.07% compares to €8,586 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Czech Republic decrease by 3.54% to 1,982,600. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Czech Republic rise by 24.14% to €.36 billions, with 23.08% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Latvia stood at €501 millions, an increase by €5 millions or 1.01% compares to €496 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Latvia increase by 6.90% to 387,200. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Latvia up by 17.39% to €0.8 billions, with 29.71% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Portugal stood at €12,895 millions, an increase by €92 millions or 0.72% compares to €12,803 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Portugal increase by 1.24% to 8,162,300. The total cards credit and/or delayed debit function spending for 2016 in Portugal increase by 10.26% to €4.3 billions, with 8.09% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Romania stood at €11,697 millions, an increase by €14 millions or 0.12% compares to at €11,683 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Romania increase by 13.95% to 2,825,200. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Romania rise by 20% to €1.8 billions, with 16.98% increase in number of card transactions.

  • As at 31 July 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Ireland stood at €12,951 millions, an increase by €121 millions or 0.94% compares to €12,830 millions as at 30 June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Ireland decrease by 1.43% to 1,824,000. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Ireland rise by 6.58% to €8.1 billions, with 5.88% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Russia decrease by 7.24% to 29,464,000. The total credit cards spending for 2015 in Russia up by 14.84% to RUR1,189.5 billions, with 33.19% increase in number of card transactions.
