    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$799.84 billion compares to USD$756.46 billion a year ago, representing a 5.73% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 50% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,000.1 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,000.1 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2016, nearing the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$$11.452 trillion compares to USD$11.356 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.85% increased in 3 months period. The USD$$11.452 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.266 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,186.655 billion for multifamily residences.

    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$$11.452 trillion compares to USD$11.111 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.07% increased in 12 months period. The USD$$11.452 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.266 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,186.655 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2013, 871,801 payday loans amounted to USD$331,430,078 were made at Washington by 231,868 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 481,122 payday loans amounted to USD$189,125,729 were made by 259,000 customers in 2013



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are USD$59.757 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$29.134 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 1, 2017(January, February and March), a 10.32% decrease compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 31 March 2017, there are 201 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$178 billions(USD$170 billions for purchases and USD$8 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 1, 2017(January, February and March). There are 582 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2017, generating USD$445 billions(USD$407 billions for purchases and USD$38 billions for cash advances) for Q1, 2017.

    As at 31 March 2017, there are 48.2 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$165.4 billions for Quarter 1, 2017(January, February and March). There are 63.0 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2017, generating USD$86.9 billions total card billed business for Q1, 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 335 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$418 billions(USD$404 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 1, 2017(January, February and March) in the United States. There are 728 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 31 December 2016. USD$618 billions(USD$571 for purchases and USD$48 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 1, 2017 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 31 March 2017, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$1.961 trillion compares to USD$$1.935 trillion as at 31 December 2016, representing a 1.34% increased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 26% or USD$517.61 billion of the total outstanding USD$1.961 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 31 March 2017, a decrease of 15.02% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2016, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$614.40 billion, an increase of 1.44% compares to USD$605.66 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 March 2017, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$77.870 billion, a decrease of 0.30% or CAD$238 million compares to CAD$78.108 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2015, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada decrease by 4.86% to 68.5 millions. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2015 in Canada up by 5.46% to CAD$421.03 billions(CAD$390.67 billion purchases and CAD$30.36 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Canada decrease by 5.90% to 72,066,520. However, the total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2015 in Canada up by 3.01% to CAD$415.87 billions, with 4.49% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 28 February 2017, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 7,771,379 of main cardholders and 1,456,079 for supplementary cardholders with S$26.8 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 7,818,154 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 2.82% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.47% to 1,438,589. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2016, total card billings amounted to SGD$49.90 billion.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 40,620,870 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 26,900,204 cards are active. A total of 558,429 cards is issued in the month of March 2017. The total credit cards spending for March 2017 in Taiwan is NT$222.53 billion, made up of NT$220.27 billion in purchases and NT$2.26 billion in cash advance.

    As at 31 March 2017, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$7.678942 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$106.033 billions), an increase of NT$15.915 billions or 0.21% compares to NT$7.663027 trillions as at 28 February 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 3.02% to 38,518,206, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2015 in Taiwan is NT$2.232 trillions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, there are 16,607,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 64,000 or 0.39% in 3 months period(compares to 16,543,000 as at 30 September 2016). The rollover amount stood at HKD$22,734 millions as at 31 December 2016.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 19,184,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, a decrease of 0.11% compares to a quarter ago. 151,686,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q4,2016, generating HKD$167.236 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 563,940,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$611.992 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 1.19% or 224,000 to 19,044,000 as at 31 December 2015, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2015, a total of 520,977,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$595.405 billions.



  • As at 31 January 2017, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 20,367,952, with 44.335 millions transactions amounting to THB156 billions recorded in January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 7.18% to 21,762,275. And the total credit cards spending for 2015 in Thailand continue to rise by 6.03% to THB1,724 billions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, there are 111 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 97,486,078 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND250,009 billions.

  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 29.84 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for March 2017 in India is INR336.20 billions, out of 108.10 millions transactions.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, a total of 987.50 millions transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR3,011.66 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in India increase by 24.48% to 28.32 million. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in India up by 31.10% to INR3,011.66 billions, with 32.58% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 17,592,430 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for March 2017 in Indonesia is IDR25,655,442 millions, out of 27,853,985 transactions(27,139,140 recorded for purchases with IDR24,871,713 millions in value and 714,845 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR783,729 millions in value).
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, a total of 305,052,297 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of DR281,020,518 millions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 3.22% to 17,406,327. The total credit cards transactions for 2016 in Indonesia up by 0.17% to IDR281,020,518 millions, with 8.43% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 8,179,228 for main cardholders and 999,230 for supplementary cardholders, with 35.5 million transactions amounting to MYR$11.5 billion recorded in the month.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR36,723.585 millions as at 31 January 2017, a decrease of 0.60% compares to previous month. MYR10,120.463 millions credit card loans disbursed in January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 7.12% to 8,741,057. And the total credit cards spending for 2015 in Malaysia continue to rise by 6.82% to MYR112.7 billions, out of 359.6 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 16,720,927 cardholders in Australia, with 226,619,969 transactions amounting to A$28.18 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 March 2017, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,645.083 billions, an increase of 0.40% compares to A$1,638.481 billions as at 28 February 2017

    As at 31st December 2016, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,626.034 billions, an increase of 6.85% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 28 February 2017, there are 96,188,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 88,221,000 personal credit cards and 7,968,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of February 2017, 843,492,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW54.134885 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 2.73% to 95,639,000. Personal credit cards increase by 3.34% while corporate credit card decrease by 3.55%. A total of KRW675.76 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2016, out of 10.66 billions transactions.



  • For the month of February 2017, JPY3.91 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY3.78 trillion for purchases and JPY0.13 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2015, the number of credit cards in Japan decrease by 3.11% to 258.90 millions. The total credit card transactions for 2015 increased by 7.69% to JPY49.83 trillions.



  • As at 30 April 2017, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$6.787 billion(an increase of NZD$49 million or 0.73% compares to NZD$6.738 billion as at end of March 2017). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for April 2017 is NZD$3.215 billion.

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in China decrease by 5.03% to 432.2065 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2015 in China up by 29.77% to CNY55,001 billions, with 46.95% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 31 December 2016, there are 6,452,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 66.094 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 4, 2016(October, November and December), generating NOK42.827 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 244.694 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK165.809 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway increase by 998,000 or 7.29% to 14,696,000 as at 31st December 2015, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.76% in volume and 4.98% in value.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 6,157,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 653,000 or 11.86% compares to 5,504,000 to the end of 2014. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2015, a total of NOK130.8 billions recorded from 179.20 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 31 March 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Norway stood at NOK71,560 million, an increase of NOK1,947 millions or 2.80% compares to NOK69,613 millions as at 28 February 2017.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 59.732 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £62.273 billions. The total credit cards spending for March 2017 in UK is £13.265 billions, out of 239.058 millions transactions. There are 609,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,339 millions recorded in March 2017.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2015 increase by 18.48% to £567.5m, 66.93% or £379.8m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £187.7m or 33.07% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.90% to 59,877,000 as at 31st December 2015(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £166.27 billions in transactions.

    As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans n United Kingdom stood at €152,795 millions, an increase by €1,505 millions or 0.99% compares to €151,290 millions as at 31 January 2017.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €184,353 millions, a decrease by €228 millions or 0.12% compares to €184,581 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 12.80% to 4,968,840. The total cards spending for 2015 in Germany rised by 10.89% to €5.70 billions, out of 87.29 millions transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €17,547 millions, a decrease by €95 millions or 0.54% compares to €17,642 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 6,296,775 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 158.851 millions transactions is recorded, generating €14.446 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2015, there are 6,224,075 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2015, 141.166 millions transactions recorded, generating €13.406 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands decrease by 2.58% to 6,224,080. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2015 in Netherlands rised by 10.83% to €13.41 billions, with 7.58% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2015, there are 419,460 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 6.51% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 March 2017, there are 23,796,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(185,000 or 0.77% lower compares to 23,981,000 as at end of February 2017), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK77.516 billions.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 65.58%% to 8,636,660. The total credit cards spending for 2015 in Sweden continue to rise by 77.91% to €15.87 billions(out of 292.00 millions transactions).

    As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €20,111 millions, a decrease by €477 millions or 2.32% compares to €20,588 millions as at 31 January 2017.



  • As at 30 September 2016, there are 48.09 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.27 millions or 7.30% compares to 44.82 millions as at 31 December 2015. For the 9 months ended 30 September 2016, 2,229.859 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €91,179.36 millions.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 44.82 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.65% or 1.58 millions compares to 43.24 millions as at 31 December 2014. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2015, 2,683.857 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €112,330.26 millions.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 3.62% to 45,152,590. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2015 in Spain decrease by 3.53% to €63.39 billions, with 7.12% decrease in number of card transactions.

    As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €69,252 millions, an increase by €11 millions or 0.02% compares to €69,241 millions as at 31 January 2017.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €8,596 millions, an increase by €29 millions or 0.34% compares to €8,567 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 2,332,630 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2015 is €290 million, out of 2.27 millions transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €14,582 millions, an increase by €17 millions or 0.12% compares to at €14,565 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 2,013,540 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2015 is €2.95 billions, out of 53.45 millions transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €151,456 millions, a decrease by €1,275 millions or 0.83% compares to €152,731 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, there are 5,860,320 credit cards in France, generating €13.17 billions from 247.87 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €88,503 millions, an increase by €1,857 millions or 2.14% compares to €86,646 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy increase by 0.87% to 26,837,290. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2015 in Italy increase by 0.45% to €54.15 billions, with 1.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €15,557 millions, a decrease by €37 millions or 0.24% compares to €15,953 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2016(from 1 January 2016 to 30 June 2016), 27.5 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK19.526 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Denmark increase by 4.39% to 1,880,003. The total cards spending for 2015 in Denmark increase by 8.15% to DKK36.897 billions(€4.95 billions), with 6.68% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 January 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Poland stood at €36,673 millions, an increase by €866 millions or 2.42% compares to €35,807 millions as at 31 December 2016.

  • As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Poland decrease by 3.88% to 5,807,560. However, the total cards spending for 2015 in Poland rise by 1.34% to €7.55 billions, with 12.07% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,926 millions, a decrease by €176 millions or 0.92% compares to €19,102 millions as at 31 January 2016.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Austria decrease by 4.30% to 1,356,760. The total cards spending for 2015 in Austria lowered by 1.69% to €5.22 billions, with 0.91% decrease in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, there are 6,373,915 cardholders in Switzerland, with 27,965,000 transactions amounting to CHF$2.901 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 2.49% to 6,345,971. A total of 344.65 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2016 with CHF$36.82 billions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2016, there are 1,372,960 credit cards in Hungary. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2016, 78,555,263 credit card transactions recorded in Hungary, generating HUF616,886 millions in value.

    As at 31 January 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Hungary stood at €7,799 millions, an increase by €54 millions or 0.70% compares to €7,745 millions as at 31 December 2016.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 0.71% to 1,382,480. The total cards spending for 2015 in Hungary rise by 15.00% to €1.61 billions, with 18.62% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €8,191 millions, an increase by €21 millions or 0.26% compares to €8,170 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Czech Republic increase by 29.69% to 2,055,400. The total credit cards spending for 2015 in Czech Republic rise by 44.95% to €2.87 billions, with 47.16% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Latvia stood at €475 millions, a decrease by €19 millions or 3.85% compares to €494 millions as at 31 January 2017.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Latvia increase by 5.37% to 362,150. The total credit cards spending for 2015 in Latvia up by 20.00% to €0.72 billions, with 10.92% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 28 February 2017, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Portugal stood at €13,694 millions, an increase by €51 millions or 0.37% compares to €13,643 millions as at 31 January 2017.



    As at 31 December 2015, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Portugal increase by 4.69% to 8,144,540. The total cards credit and/or delayed debit function spending for 2015 in Portugal increase by 2.07% to €3.94 billions, with 5.06% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Romania stood at €11,434 millions, a decrease by €182 millions or 1.57% compares to at €11,616 millions as at 30 November 2016.

    As at 31 December 2015, the number of credit cards in Romania increase by 7.72% to 2,479,330. The total credit cards spending for 2015 in Romania rise by 12.21% to €1.47 billions, with 9.29% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Bulgaria stood at €4,352 millions, a decrease by €56 millions or 1.27% compares to €4,408 millions as at 30 November 2016.
