For 2010, there are 333.29 millions of card payment transactions in Ireland(74.47 transactions per capita), a significant increase of 9.89 millions or 3.06% compares to 323.40 millions in 2009. Out of these transactions, 107.50 millions or 32.25% is paid by credit cards, a decrease of 1.9 millions or 1.74% compares to 109.40 millions in 2009. The rest of card payment transactions(225.79 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 11.79 millions or 5.51% compares to 214.00 millions in 2009, which is in accordance with increase on the number of debit cards. Ireland total card payment transactions volume contributes 0.98% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2010 is €23.33 billions in value(€5.21 thousands per capita), a decrease of €0.33 billions or 1.39% compares to €23.66 billions in 2009. This also translates into €70.0 per card payment transaction, a smaller amount compares to €73.2 in 2009. The total card payments for 2008 is €25.98 billions in value(€5.85 thousands per capita), an increase of €2.24 billions or 9.44% compares to €23.74 billions in 2007. This also translates into €81.7 per card payment transaction, a smaller amount compares to €90.4 in 2007. Out of these transactions, €13.88 billions or 53.43% is paid by credit cards, a slight decrease of €0.18 billions or 1.28% compares to €14.06 billions in 2007. This shows that increase on the number of credit cards and transaction volume have no effect in the transaction value. In other words, credit cards are used for increasingly smaller amounts, from an average of €127.08 to €117.18 per transaction. The rest of card payments, €12.10 billions in value is paid by debit cards, a significant increase of €2.42 billions or 25% compares to €9.68 billions in 2007. Ireland total card payment value contributes 1.54% to the EU total transactions value.
