Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2010, there are 129.49 millions of card payment transactions in Slovakia(23.85 transactions per capita), an increase of 15.1 millions or 13.2% compares to 114.39 millions in 2009.
Out of these transactions, 12.32 millions or 9.51% is paid by credit cards, an increase of 0.26 millions or 2.16% compares to 12.06 millions in 2009; which is an encouraging growth since the number of credit cards issued declined by 19.73% in 2010 compares to previous year.
Majority of card payment transactions(117.17 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 14.84 millions or 14.50% compares to 102.33 millions in 2009; which is a very positive growth since there is only 5.04% increase in the number of debit cards issued in 2010.
Slovakia total card payment transactions volume contributes 0.38% to the EU total number of transactions.
Slovakia has a low total card payments in value in Europe, stand at €6.89 billions in 2010(€1.27 thousands per capita), an increase of €0.41 billions or 6.33% to €6.48 billions in 2009.
This also translates into €53.2 per card payment transaction, a decrease compares to €56.6 per card payment transaction in 2009. This shows payment card is used for increasingly smaller amount purchases in Slovakia.
Out of these transactions, €0.59 billions or 8.56% is paid by credit cards, a decrease of €0.01 billions or 1.67% compares to €0.60 billions in 2009. This is expected with the significant decrease in number of credit cards and slow growth on credit card transactions.
The rest of card payments, €6.3 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €0.42 billions or 7.14% compares to €5.88 billions in 2009. This is in accordance with the increase in debit card transactions.

As of 2009, Slovakia has a population of 5.42 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €63.05 billions. This
translates into €11.64 thousands of GDP per capita. Slovakia contributes 0.54% of the EU total GDP.
As at 31st December 2009, there are 5,105,850 payment cards issued in Slovakia(0.94 cards per capita), a decrease of 116,060 or 2.22% compares to 5,221,910 in 2008.
There are 1,056,700 credit cards in Slovakia as at 31st December 2009, a significant decrease of 218,500 or 17.13% compares to 1,275,200 in 2008.
Debit cards increase by 102,440 or 2.60% to 4,049,150 in 2009, compares to 3,946,710 in 2008.

For 2009, there are 114.39 millions of card payment transactions in Slovakia(21.11 transactions per capita), a significant increase of 27.06 millions or 30.99% compares to 87.33 millions in 2008.
Out of these transactions, 12.06 millions or 10.54% is paid by credit cards, a significant increase of 2.64 millions or 28.03% compares to 9.42 millions in 2008; which is a healthy growth as the number of credit cards issued declined by 17.13% in 2009 compares to previous year.
Majority of card payment transactions(102.33 millions) are paid by debit cards, an increase of 24.42 millions or 31.34% compares to 77.91 millions in 2008; which is a very positive growth since there is only 2.60% increase in the number of debit cards issued in 2009.
Slovakia total card payment transactions volume contributes 0.36% to the EU total number of transactions.
Slovakia has a low total card payments in value in Europe, stand at €6.48 billions in 2009(€1.20 thousands per capita), a significant increase of €1.05 billions or 19.34% to €5.43 billions in 2008.
This also translates into €56.6 per card payment transaction, a decrease compares to €62.1 per card payment transaction in 2008. This shows payment card is used for increasingly smaller amount purchases in Slovakia.
Out of these transactions, €0.60 billions or 9.26% is paid by credit cards, a significant increase of €0.09 billions or 17.65% compares to €0.51 billions in 2008. This is influence by increase on the number of credit card transactions.
The rest of card payments, €5.88 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €0.97 billions or 19.76% compares to €4.91 billions in 2008. This is in accordance with the increase in debit card number of transactions.
