from American Express® Short Review The Hilton HHonors® Platinum Card from American Express® is ideal if you have very good credit and frequently stay at Hilton Hotels. Through the reward program, you'll earn five points per dollar spent at Hilton Family Hotels, supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, restaurants, the U.S. Postal Service, and for wireless phone bills, and you'll earn three points per dollar spent on all other purchases. The reward program can be combined with the Hilton's HHonors® reward program that offers various benefits including a chance to earn both points and frequent flyer miles for a qualifying hotel stay. You'll receive 10,000 bonus points after your first purchase, 15,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in 5 months, and 2,500 bonus points for each of your first four stays at any Hilton Family Hotel. The interest rate on purchases and balance transfers is above average, but a low introductory rate is available on purchases and balance transfers for the first six months. This card also has no annual fee, and many common benefits and services are provided. |
Cardholders Comment/Review/Rating "Good if you use Hilton - Every year I book a category 6 room in LA. This year I also booked in Detroit and in London, and paid for all of these with this card. I never had a problem with getting a room, and although Hilton is not the best hotel chain, they can be very good. There's no great advantage to getting 3 points per dollar spent; it's the ratio of 'how many points does it take to get a room' to 'number of points per dollar spent' that governs whether that's a good deal, and it appears to be fair - not great, not bad. Also, I got a Citibank Hilton card, took the bonus points for a purchase, then asked Hilton to merge the Citibank generated Hilton account points into my American Express Hilton account, which they did." Mark, 11/4/2007 "THE BEST HHONORS HOTEL REWARDS CARD OUT THERE - Highly recommend this card if you travel allot, pay your statement balance in full each month and prefer to stay in a Hilton family chain hotel while on travel. The only negatives on it is AMEX is not as widely accepted as VISA/MC/Discover because of their higher fees to merchants, therefore recommend you have at least a VISA or MC in your wallet as a backup card. Also the initial credit limit I received with this card was extremely low (compared to my other credit cards I received). After having it 6 months the credit limit was raised substantially enough to allow me to use this card as my primary card and in the course of a few years is right up there with my other credit cards credit limit without having to ask for a credit line increase." Mike, 3/21/2007 "Best Hotel Card - This is probably the best hotel card in the market. I have another Priority Club/Holiday Inn Credit card and it's nothing compare to this card. I get 5 points for every dollars in certain places and 3 points everywhere else, compare 1 point for every dollar on my Priority Club/Holiday Inn card. I get more points for my dollars and a better hotel compare to Priority Club." Rick, 12/11/2006 "Underrated credit card - I LOVE this card. Amex earlier this year upped the benefits, and they're now handing out 5 points per $1 spent at restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, the post office, and drug stores, and 3 points per dollar on EVERYTHING ELSE. At the very least, you're going to earn three points per dollar spent. Perfect. Hilton redemtion levels for Hotels went up this year, which kind of sucked. BUT, with this card, the points can add up quick and possibly make up for the higher redemption levels. Oh, and there's no annual fee! This is an underrated card, IMO." Andrew, 9/25/2006 "An Excellent Reward Card with NO Annual Fee!! I have been a Hilton HHonors American Express Platinum Card holder for the last 2-3 years. I really enjoyed using this card in combination with my Hilton frequent flyer card. Points add up fast, esp. for Hilton stays. There's no annual fee and the reward possibilities are many! So far, I have used it for hotel stay and exchange them for products. They can also be used for cruises, air travel, air rental, etc. It's a great card!" Cornhusker fan, 1/27/2002 "This card is great! My husband and I love this card. Where else can you get 3 Hilton point for every dollar spent? We have gotten some great rewards. The only problem is the low inital credit limit, but after 6 months they will raise it substantially. But, then you have to wait another 6 months if you want to raise it again!" J.M., 1/5/2002 |
