Card for College Students Short Review The Citi® Platinum Select® Visa® Card for College Students provides you with an interest-free introductory rate on all transactions and student-related discounts at various participating merchants. There is a 0% introductory rate on purchases, balance transfers, and cash advances for the first six months, which is a rare benefit for a student card. There is no annual fee, but the interest rate on purchases and balance transfers is above average after the introductory rate expires, and it is not ideal if you plan to carry a balance. However, the card does offer many student-related discounts on various products and services, and there are many additional benefits including various travel and emergency assistance services. |
Cardholders Comment/Review/Rating "Decent card - I have had this card for a few months now. The card is pretty good, no complaints. I don't really carry a balance so interest rate isn't a big issue with me. Customer assistance has been decent, nothing negative to report." James, 1/26/2005 "Great college credit card - I opened this account in September of '02 right after starting college, and was approved for a $500 credit line. The interest is about average for college students (13.9%), as a matter of fact it's pretty good compared to some others like Discover for students which has a 17.8% rate. I have been good with this card, never missed a payment and never gone over the limit, and in return they have given me 3 credit line increases. $500-$1,200-$1,800-$3,200 which I am currently at. I have the photocard which is good but I look like I'm dead in the picture. I don't know how they scan the photo you send in, but they did a bad job with mine. They have been good to me, and I do recommend this card to college students looking for a good credit card to start building their credit history." Carlos, 1/26/2004 "Good Card For students - This is a great card for students with no credit because anyone with no or good credit can get one. Not sure about students with bad credit. The only bad part of the card is they usually give a very low credit limit to people with no credit. Depending on how you look at it this could also be a good thing because it prevents you from spending too much money. I would recomend this card to anyone, I use it frequently and you can use the online bill paying service to pay it off with ease." BVF, 9/6/2003 "Pretty good - I have been with them from sep 2000 and havent had any problems. They give u credit line increases every 6 months if u are doing fine. The Cus service is good. The general apr is abt 14-15% which is kind of high, but they give good balance transfer offers. So its Ok" lakshmanan, 1/5/2003 "Citi Platinum Select - The best student card ever!!! I carry the AMEX Plainum (Charge) and the AMEX Optima Platinum Card as well as the First USA Student Titanium card and this card is by far the best, especially for students. Initially I was unsure if this card would be beneficial to me because the card started off with a low limit, despite all of the effort I had to put in to actually receiving the card. Citibank is picky when you apply for a student card (Once I applied, I received a letter telling me that because of my good credit history they were eager to do business with me but they required a written certification from my school showing my enrollment status. This is the first student card I have applied for that required such documentation)I decided to send in the requested documents and in about 3 weeks I received the card in the mail. However once you have the card they give you pretty much whatever you want. I am very pleased with the worldwide, 24/7 customer service and web site and as for the low initial limit, I have had the card for about 6 months and my limit has been increased 4 times which I have never seen a card issuer willing to do, especially with a student card. (I am 18 years old: My initial credit limit was $500, after 3 months they incresed it to $1,300 and now 3 months and 3 increases later my total credit limit is $7,500.00) Additionally, I noticed on my last statement that my intro rate of 9.9% had expired and went up to 14.9% but after one call to customer service, they were willing to lock in the 9.9% rate for the life of the card! I truly think this is the best student card because citibank is flexible and is willing to grow with you and your financial needs without time restrictions." Daniel, 8/20/2002 |
