When used with on-line software, this card has the capability to generate a different virtual account number for every purchase and can set a dollar limit on what the merchant can charge to the transaction. Of course, if used in the store, it is like any other card, but you can have your picture added to the card for additional security purposes." The one time I charged something and had to do a charge-back because the merchant backed out, Citi was right there immediatly defending my side of the transaction. The only problem I can see is that I get Citi points but frankly have NO idea how to use them." The interest is tied to the prime rate plus a percentage, a little high compared to others but the percentage amount has NEVER changed since I received this card. When my spouse was traveling in another part of the country and used the card, I received a phone call from customer care double-checking that the card wasn't lost since we don't usually have charges from that part of the country. This card also doesn't have an annual fee. I will be staying with this card because I know I can rely on honest practices and great customer service. Linda, 11/8/2002 "#1 Card - My review is based on comparing my relationship with Citi vs. my other cards (Juniper, MBNA, CapitalOne) of which I have a great relationship with all of them. This is probably due to my credit rating, my early payment every month, and I do not get close to my limit. The Citbank Platinum Select card is the best card I have. My rate is 7.65% fixed after an introductory rate of 0% for a year (which caught my attention in the first place). They even allowed me to open another account with the same credit line for another year at 0%! The customer service is very good. They've taken care of any requests I've had promptly. I called them regarding another promotional rate on my first card and got two different answers from two different people, so they don't always have their story straight. On another occasion, I went to pay on-line and realized I forgot to set it up in advance. I didn't want to risk the payment being late by sending snail mail, so I called customer service and they offered to withdrawal my funds from my checking account over the phone and waived the $5.95 fee! Their website is a bit quirky. My on-line payments all went through timely and correctly, but sometimes the site is very slow or is unavailable. On another occasion I reviewed my personal profile for my second account and a week later I got a letter from them stating my email address is required in my profile for on-line payment. I checked it, but it's there. Therefore, I will always double-check to make sure the payment went through. I'm sure if I paid late or exceeded my limit, they wouldn't treat me very well and would stick it to me any way they could. But compared to the other "great" cards I have, Citi is probably the best." I have had a Citibank card since I was a freshman in college and they have always been great to work with!! In my time I have had a Capital One card (yuck!), a MBNA card (those people are the devil!!), and a Direct Merchant's card (run away and don't look back) all of which are now useless bits of cut up plastic in some landfill. I am trying to cut back on credit card spending but I think I will always keep my CitiCard because they will up my credit, lower my interest rate (all it took was a phone call), and offer great deals while being friendly and never pushy!" cam, 4/12/2002 |
