    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$865.05 billion compares to USD$799.84 billion a year ago, representing a 8.15% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 52% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,028.5 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,028.5 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2017, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 March 2018, there are 76 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,716 average credit line. As of Q1 2018, a total of 27 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,643 average credit line.

    As at 31 March 2018, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,407.1 billions compares to USD$1,375.5 billions a quarter ago, representing a 2.30% increased in 3 months period.
    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,375.5 billions compares to USD$1,299.7 billions same period a year ago, representing a 5.83% increased in 12 months period.

    As at 31 March 2018, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$11.978 trillion compares to USD$11.917 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.51% increased in 3 months period. The USD$11.978 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.646 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,331.547 billion for multifamily residences.
    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$11.917 trillion compares to USD$11.486 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.75% increased in 12 months period. The USD$11.917 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.606 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,310.729 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2016, 776,824 payday loans amounted to USD$273,746,893 were made at Washington by 196,117 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are USD$67.812 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$35.077 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 2, 2018(April, May and June), a 9.03% increase compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 30 June 2018, there are 218 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$211 billions(USD$202 billions for purchases and USD$9 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 2, 2018(April, May and June). There are 618 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2018, generating USD$506 billions(USD$490 billions for purchases and USD$40 billions for cash advances) for Q2, 2018.

    As at 30 June 2018, there are 51.9 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$195.4 billions for Quarter 2, 2018(April, May and June). There are 62.4 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2018, generating USD$101.1 billions total card billed business for Q2, 2018.

    As at 31 March 2018, there are 342 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$507 billions(USD$493 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 2, 2018(April, May and June) in the United States. There are 755 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2018. USD$741 billions(USD$689 for purchases and USD$52 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 2, 2018 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 30 June 2018, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$2.077 trillion compares to USD$2.052 trillion as at 30 March 2018, representing a 1.22% increased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 30% or USD$632.48 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.077 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 June 2018, an increase of 2.22% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$623.05 billion, an increase of 1.41% compares to USD$614.40 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 April 2018, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$78.806 billion, an increase of 0.31% or CAD$246 million compares to CAD$78.560 billion a month ago.

    As at 30 April 2018, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$100.920 billion, a decrease of 0.13% or CAD$134 million compares to CAD$101.054 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2016, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 3.43% to 75.3 millions. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2016 in Canada up by 5.46% to CAD$452.36 billions(CAD$$419.85 billion purchases and CAD$32.51 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 4.49% to 75,300,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2016 in Canada up by 6.87% to CAD$444.45 billions, with 10.55% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 May 2018, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 7,605,238 of main cardholders and 1,377,730 for supplementary cardholders with S$25.4 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 31 May 2018, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$264,859.5 millions, an increase of 0.08% compares to SGD$264,659.6 millions as at 30 April 2018. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$10,822.2 millions as at 31 May 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 7,724,041 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 1.20% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.39% to 1,389,750. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2017, total card billings amounted to SGD$54.28 billion.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 42,609,417 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 28,538,403 cards are active. A total of 506,989 cards is issued in the month of June 2018. The total credit cards spending for June 2018 in Taiwan is NT$300.34 billion, made up of NT$298.20 billion in purchases and NT$2.14 billion in cash advance.

    As at 30 June 2018, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$8.093874 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$109.193 billions), an increase of NT$37.680 billions or 0.47% compares to NT$8.056194 trillions as at 31 May 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 2.53% to 41,729,994, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2017 in Taiwan is NT$2.623 trillions.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 17,124,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 199,000 or 1.18% in 3 months period(compares to 16,925,000 as at 31 December 2017). The rollover amount stood at HKD$24,194 millions as at 31 March 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 19,666,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 1.01% compares to a quarter ago. 166,917,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q4,2017, generating HKD$182.880 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 627,720,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$658.776 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 0.74% or 140,000 to 19,184,000 as at 31 December 2016, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2016, a total of 563,940,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$611.992 billions.



  • As at 28 February 2018, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 20,496,420, with 45.232 millions transactions amounting to THB157 billions recorded in February 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 6.12% to 20,136,341. And the total credit cards spending for 2016 in Thailand continue to rise by 5.68% to THB1,822 billions.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 136 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 1st quarter 2018, 44,310,402 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND99,393 billions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 18.92% or 21 millions to 132 millions. 151,130,814 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2017, generating VND352,347 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 39.37 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for June 2018 in India is INR466.29 billions, out of 136.73 millions transactions.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 1,355.43 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR4,335.74 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in India increase by 24.48% to 28.32 million. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in India up by 31.10% to INR3,011.66 billions, with 32.58% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 17,249,578 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for June 2018 in Indonesia is IDR25,402,398 millions, out of 27,667,099 transactions(27,141,547 recorded for purchases with IDR24,780,132 millions in value and 525,552 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR622,266 millions in value).
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, a total of 82,064,249 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR73,372,664 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Indonesia decrease by 0.93% to 17,244,127. The total credit cards transactions for 2017 in Indonesia up by 6.05% to IDR298,016,289 millions, with 8.43% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2017, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 8,385,507 for main cardholders and 1,018,713 for supplementary cardholders, with 34.2 million transactions amounting to MYR$10.5 billion recorded in the month.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR36,221.117 millions as at 30 June 2017, an increase of 0.78% compares to previous month. MYR9,704.874 millions credit card loans disbursed in June 2017.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 6.58% to 9,178,458. And the total credit cards spending for 2016 in Malaysia continue to rise by 5.15% to MYR118.5 billions, out of 383.8 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 16,089,500 cardholders in Australia, with 224,420,681 transactions amounting to A$26.64 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 30 June 2018, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,744.404 billions, an increase of 0.52% compares to A$1,735.361 billions as at 31 May 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,707.363 billions, an increase of 5.04% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 May 2018, there are 101,918,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 93,273,000 personal credit cards and 8,645,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of May 2018, 1,136,414,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW63.456583 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 4.00% to 99,462,000. Personal credit cards increase by 3.69% while corporate credit card increase by 7.41%. A total of KRW702.97 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2017, out of 11.97 billions transactions.



  • For the month of May 2018, JPY4.82 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY4.65 trillion for purchases and JPY0.17 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2017, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.26% to 272.01 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2017 increased by 8.23% to JPY58.37 trillions, compares to 2016.



  • As at 30 June 2018, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$7.188 billion(an increase of NZD$13 million or 0.18% compares to NZD$7.175 billion as at end of April 2018). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for June 2018 is NZD$3.656 billion(NZD$3.102 billion for domestic spending and NZD$554 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in China increase by 7.60% to 465.0349 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2016 in China up by 2.72% to CNY56,498 billions, with 32.03% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 31 December 2017, there are 5,547,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 57.784 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 4, 2017(October, November and December), generating NOK43.010 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 242.585 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK168.894 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway increase by 1,006,000 or 7.34% to 14,704,000 as at 31st December 2015, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.76% in volume and 4.98% in value.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 7,253,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 445,000 or 6.54% compares to 6,808,000 in the end of 2016. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, a total of NOK145.2 billions recorded from 215.8 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 31 March 2018, the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,178,888 million, an increase of NOK87,840 millions or 2.84% compares to NOK3,091,048 millions as at 28 February 2018.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 59.615 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £67.679 billions. The total credit cards spending for June 2018 in UK is £14.400 billions, out of 265.044 millions transactions. There are 543,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,182 millions recorded in June 2018.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2017 decrease by 8.43% to £566.0m, 72.01% or £407.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £158.4m or 27.99% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK decrease by 0.73% to 59,069,000 as at 31st December 2017(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £178.70 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €153,089 millions, an increase by €929 millions or 0.61% compares to €152,160 millions as at 30 April 2018.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €191,274 millions, a decrease by €2,472 millions or 1.28% compares to €193,748 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 15.95% to 5,682,000. The total cards spending for 2016 in Germany rised by 20.69% to €7.0 billions, out of 111.7 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €16,759 millions, a decrease by €370 millions or 2.16% compares to €17,129 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 March 2018, there are 6,365,056 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 44.645 millions transactions is recorded, generating €3.994 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2017, there are 6,367,963 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 179.871 millions transactions is recorded, generating €15.687 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 8.65% to 5,436,000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Netherlands rised by 7.46% to €14.4 billions, with 12.46% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2016, there are 293,100 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 30.13% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 24,275,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(121,000 or 0.50% lower compares to 24,396,000 as at end of May 2018), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK89.871 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Sweden increase by 3.59% to 8,946,900. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Sweden continue to rise by 18.87% to €18.9 billions(out of 362 millions transactions).

    As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €21,064 millions, an increase by €601 millions or 2.94% compares to €20,463 millions as at 30 April 2018.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 53.76 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 1.41 millions or 2.69% compares to 52.35 millions as at 31 December 2017. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 881.181 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €32,982.67 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 52.35 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.60 millions or 7.38% compares to 48.75 millions as at 31 December 2016. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 3,429.385 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €135,246.47 millions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 8.72% to 49,089,700. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Spain increase by 5.99% to €67.2 billions, with 6.92% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 May 2018, the outstanding balance for consumer credit in Spain(which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans) stood at €83,058 millions, an increase by €1,134 millions or 1.38% compares to €81,924 millions as at 30 April 2018.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €10,968 millions, a decrease by €28 millions or 0.25% compares to €10,996 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 2,276,100 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2016 is €300 million, out of 2.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €15,548 millions, an increase by €133 millions or 0.86% compares to at €15,415 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 2,098,700 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2016 is €3.5 billions, out of 63.8 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €167,568 millions, an increase by €1,539 millions or 0.93% compares to at €166,029 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, there are 4,751,700 credit cards in France, generating €13.3 billions from 254.4 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €98,566 millions, an increase by €875 millions or 0.90% compares to €97,691 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy decrease by 10.41% to 24,043,700. However, the total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2016 in Italy increase by 15.16% to €62.3 billions, with 18.97% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,064 millions, a decrease by €38 millions or 0.24% compares to €16,102 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 58.553 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK45.352 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 1.32% to 1,855,128. The total cards spending for 2016 in Denmark increase by 8.16% to DKK39.280 billions(€5.3 billions), with 8.16% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €42,099 millions, a decrease by €257 millions or 0.61% compares to €42,356 millions as at 30 April 2018.

  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Poland increase by 1.33% to 5,884,700. The total cards spending for 2016 in Poland rise by 10.67% to €8.3 billions, with 14.99% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,983 millions, an increase by €312 millions or 1.67% compares to €18,671 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Austria increase by 0.13% to 1,358,500. The total cards spending for 2016 in Austria increased by 3.85% to €5.4 billions, with 8.79% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, there are 6,665,139 cardholders in Switzerland, with 38,718,000 transactions amounting to CHF$3.697 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 3.67% to 6,578,735. A total of 400.70 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2017 with CHF$40.33 billions in value.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 1,294,031 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 90,239,387 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF708,488 millions in value.

    As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,480 millions, a decrease by €56 millions or 0.74% compares to €7,536 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 1.92% to 1,356,000. The total cards spending for 2016 in Hungary rise by 14.84% to €1.9 billions, with 16.84% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,138 millions, an increase by €5 millions or 0.05% compares to €9,133 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Czech Republic decrease by 3.54% to 1,982,600. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Czech Republic rise by 24.14% to €.36 billions, with 23.08% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Latvia stood at €503 millions, an increase by €7 millions or 1.41% compares to €496 millions as at 30 April 2018.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in Latvia increase by 6.90% to 387,200. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in Latvia up by 17.39% to €0.8 billions, with 29.71% increase in number of card transactions.
