    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$903.49 billion compares to USD$865.05 billion a year ago, representing a 4.44% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 52% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,053.5 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,053.5 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2018, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 30 June 2019, there are 74 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,864 average credit line. As of Q2 2019, a total of 23 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,701 average credit line.

    As at 30 September 2019, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,510.3 billions compares to USD$1,481.1 billions a quarter ago, representing a 1.97% increased in 3 months period.
    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,447.1 billions compares to USD$1,375.5 billions same period a year ago, representing a 5.21% increased in 12 months period.

    As at 30 September 2019, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.640 trillion compares to USD$12.507 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 1.06% increased in 3 months period. The USD$12.640 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$11.075 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,565.053 billion for multifamily residences.
    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.298 trillion compares to USD$11.911 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.25% increased in 12 months period. The USD$12.298 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.882 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,415.738 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2017, 633,882 payday loans amounted to USD$248,772,165 were made at Washington by 180,688 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.



  • As at 31 December 2019, there are USD$77.181 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$39.188 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 4, 2019(October, November and December), a 5.32% increase compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2019, there are 243 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$254 billions(USD$244 billions for purchases and USD$10 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 4, 2019(October, November and December). There are 700 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 31 December 2019, generating USD$602 billions(USD$557 billions for purchases and USD$44 billions for cash advances) for Q4, 2019.

    As at 31 December 2019, there are 54.7 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$216.8 billions for Quarter 4, 2019(October, November and December). There are 59.7 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 31 December 2019, generating USD$108.4 billions total card billed business for Q4, 2019.

    As at 30 September 2019, there are 340 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$569 billions(USD$554 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 4, 2019(October, November and December) in the United States. There are 800 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2019. USD$779 billions(USD$731 for purchases and USD$48 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 4, 2019 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in the US increase by 2.10% to 1,044.1 million. The estimated total credit cards spending for 2018 in the US up by 5.54% to USD$5,943 billions, with 6.11% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2019, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$2.216 trillion compares to USD$2.215 trillion as at 30 June 2019, representing a 0.05% increased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 23% or USD$510.54 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.216 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 September 2019, a decrease of 1.92% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$634.97 billion, an increase of 1.92% compares to USD$623.03 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 December 2019, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$88.198 billion, an increase of 2.79% or CAD$2,391 million compares to CAD$85.807 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 December 2019, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$109.760 billion, an increase of 0.11% or CAD$123 million compares to CAD$109.637 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2018, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 2.02% to 75.8 millions compares to a year ago. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2018 in Canada up by 8.99% to CAD$547.98 billions(CAD$513.09 billion purchases and CAD$34.89 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 1.43% to 78,565,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2018 in Canada up by 3.759% to CAD$548 billions, with 12.27% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 30 June 2019, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 5,440,251 for principal cardholders and 1,240,771 for supplementary local cardholders.
    For the six months ended 30th June 2019, S$32,415.1 million recorded for total card billings with S$177.9 million bad debts are written off in the period.

    As at 31 October 2019, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$262,654.9 millions, an increase of 0.06% compares to SGD$262,484.5 millions as at 30 September 2019. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$11,414.6 millions as at 31 October 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,872,526 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 11.02% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.85% to 1,336,307. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2018, total card billings amounted to SGD$59.64 billion.



  • As at 30 November 2019, there are 47,093,967 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 31,803,392 cards are active. A total of 744,442 cards is issued in the month of November 2019. The total credit cards spending for November 2019 in Taiwan is NT$263.71 billion, made up of NT$261.61 billion in purchases and NT$2.10 billion in cash advance.

    As at 30 November 2019, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$8.703092 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$112.210 billions), an increase of NT$60.044 billions or 0.69% compares to NT$8.643048 trillions as at 31 October 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.52% to 44,031,472, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2018 in Taiwan is NT$2.884 trillions.



  • As at 30 June 2019, there are 17,787,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 88,000 or 0.50% in 3 months period(compares to 17,699,000 as at 31 March 2019). The rollover amount stood at HKD$25,992 millions as at 30 June 2019.

    As at 30 June 2019, there are 19,594,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 0.53% compares to a quarter ago. 204,941,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q2,2019, generating HKD$189.841 billions.
    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, 396,557,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$383.041 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 2.51% or 482,000 to 19,666,000 as at 31 December 2017, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2017, a total of 627,720,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$658.776 billions.



  • As at 31 July 2019, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 23,582,094, with 62.603 millions transactions amounting to THB184 billions recorded in July 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 8.71% to 22,105,554. And the total credit cards spending for 2018 in Thailand continue to rise by 4.77% to THB2,000 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2019, there are 164 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 2nd quarter 2019, 72,014,202 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND145,339 billions.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, 127,771,974 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND278,261 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 15.91% or 21 millions to 153 millions. 208,195,398 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2018, generating VND447,058 billions.



  • As at 30 September 2019, there are 52.6 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for September 2019 in India is INR594.53 billions, out of 120.90 millions transactions.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, a total of 169,288,158 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR166,075,233 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in India increase by 224.54% to 44.21 million. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in India up by 31.48% to INR5,700.69 billions, with 24.00% increase in number of card transactions./li>


  • As at 30 November 2019, there are 17,383,244 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for November 2019 in Indonesia is IDR28,699,850 millions, out of 29,676,232 transactions(28,868,750 recorded for purchases with IDR27,811,203 millions in value and 807,482 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR888,647 millions in value).
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, a total of 83,692,199 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR81,929,512 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 0.18% to 17,275,128. The total credit cards transactions for 2018 in Indonesia up by 5.46% to IDR314,294,068 millions, with 3.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2019, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 9,131,325 for main cardholders and 1,004,196 for supplementary cardholders, with 43.3 million transactions amounting to MYR$12.0 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, there are 240.7 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$69.1 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR39,489.383 millions as at 31 August 2019, an increase of 0.71% compares to previous month. MYR12,753.2 millions credit card loans disbursed in August 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 4.70% to 10,324,623. And the total credit cards spending for 2018 in Malaysia continue to rise by 7.64% to MYR$135.2 billions, out of 447.1 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 December 2019, there are 20,181,443 cards in 14,655,630 accounts in Australia(made up of 18,784,828 credit cards and 1,396,615 charge cards), with 289,728,586 transactions amounting to A$31.30 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 30 November 2019, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,822.421 billions, an increase of 0.34% compares to A$1,816.163 billions as at 31 October 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,769.905 billions, an increase of 3.66% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 October 2019, there are 110,380,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 101,052,000 personal credit cards and 9,329,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of October 2019, 1,312,267,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW67.293063 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 105,063,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.68% while corporate credit card increase by 5.12%. A total of KRW741.32 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2018, out of 13.21 billions transactions.



  • For the month of October 2019, JPY5.38 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY5.23 trillion for purchases and JPY0.15 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2018, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.30% to 278.27 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2018 increased by 14.25% to JPY66.69 trillions, compares to 2017.



  • As at 31 December 2019, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$7.481 billion(an increase of NZD$113 million or 1.53% compares to NZD$7.368 billion as at end of November 2019). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for December 2019 is NZD$4.603 billion(NZD$4.105 billion for domestic spending and NZD$498 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in China increase by 16.73% to 685.892 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2018 in China up by 35.09% to CNY92,759 billions, with 67.73% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 30 June 2019, there are 5,910,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 72.096 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 2, 2019(April, May, June), generating NOK49.095 billions.
    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, 135.035 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK92.467 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway decrease by 1,142,000 or 7.25% to 14,613,000 as at 31st December 2018, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.53% in volume and 1.60% in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 7,739,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 875,000 or 12.75% compares to 6,864,000 in the end of 2017. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, a total of NOK168.0 billions recorded from 264.3 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 31 October 2019, the the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,398,675 million, a decrease of NOK70,507 millions or 2.03% compares to NOK3,469,182 millions as at 30 September 2019.



  • As at 30 September 2019, there are 61.962 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £66.549 billions. The total credit cards spending for September 2019 in UK is £15.084 billions, out of 283.517 millions transactions. There are 535,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,170 millions recorded in September 2019.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2018 increase by 18.75% to £671.4m, 73.96% or £496.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £174.8m or 26.04% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.77% to 60,113,000 as at 31st December 2018(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £207.47 billions in transactions.

    As at 30 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €156,412 millions, an increase by €3,341 millions or 2.18% compares to €153,071 millions as at 30 September 2019.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €201,069 millions, an increase by €31 millions or 0.02% compares to €201,038 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 7.54% to 5,678,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Germany increased by 14.71% to €7.8 billions, out of 126.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €15,936 millions, a decrease by €113 millions or 0.70% compares to €16,049 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 30 June 2019, there are 6,525,595 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, 103.931 millions transactions is recorded, generating €8.793 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,507,400 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 203.392 millions transactions is recorded, generating €16.985 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 2.19% to 6,507,500. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Netherlands rised by 8.28% to €17.0 billions, with 13.06% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2018, there are 347,600 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 8.24% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 November 2019, there are 19,674,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(40,000 or 0.20% higher compares to 19,634,000 as at end of October 2019), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK79.465 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 6.90% to 7,589,800. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Sweden down by 2.32% to €105.1 billions(out of 3,547.6 millions transactions).

    As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €22,455 millions, an increase by €2 millions or 0.01% compares to €22,453 millions as at 30 September 2019.



  • As at 30 June 2019, there are 36.11 millions credit cards in Spain, a decrease of 0.86 millions or 2.33% compares to 36.97 millions as at 31 March 2019. For the 6 months ended 30 June 2019, 2,129.646 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €76,012.39 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 36.64 millions credit cards in Spain. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 3,903.656 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €147,431.09 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain decrease by 29.78% to 37,010,100. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Spain decrease by 2.85% to €71.7 billions, with 2.43% decrease in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 October 2019, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €94,133 millions, an increase by €726 millions or 0.78% compares to €93,407 millions as at 30 September 2019.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €11,288 millions, an increase by €34 millions or 0.30% compares to €11,254 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 2,367,600 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2018 is €6.3 billion, out of 95.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €16,401 millions, an increase by €31 millions or 0.19% compares to €16,370 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 4,379,000 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2018 is €6.9 billions, out of 136.9 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €182,219 millions, an increase by €1,467 millions or 0.81% compares to €180,752 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 3,616,900 credit cards in France, generating €32.5 billions from 664.7 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €110,106 millions, an increase by €1,146 millions or 1.05% compares to €108,960 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy increase by 20.96% to 28,297,2000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Italy increase by 22.04% to €80.3 billions, with 23.09% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,185 millions, a decrease by €359 millions or 2.17% compares to €16,544 millions as at 30 September 2019.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, 16.525 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK12.947 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 0.06% to 1,753,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Denmark increase by 10.71% to DKK49.885 billions(€6.2 billions), with 12.50% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €46,081 millions, a decrease by €603 millions or 1.29% compares to €46,684 millions as at 31 July 2019.

  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Poland increase by 1.02% to 5,874,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Poland rise by 10.75% to €10.3 billions, with 12.15% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,665 millions, a decrease by €82 millions or 0.44% compares to €18,747 millions as at 31 July 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Austria increase by 2.03% to 1,373,500. The total cards spending for 2018 in Austria increased by 7.02% to €6.1 billions, with 13.81% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 October 2019, there are 7,190,364 cardholders in Switzerland, with 47,418,000 transactions amounting to CHF$4.085 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 5.10% to 6,914,273. A total of 465.38 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2018 with CHF$43.86 billions in value.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 1,305,305 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 90,239,387 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF708,488 millions in value.

    As at 31 August 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,988 millions, an increase by €275 millions or 3.57% compares to €7,713 millions as at 31 July 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 8.34% to 1,283,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Hungary rise by 13.27% to €2.6 billions, with 22.07% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,884 millions, an increase by €22 millions or 0.22% compares to €9,884 millions as at 31 July 2019.

  • As at 31 August 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Latvia stood at €532 millions, an increase by €3 millions or 0.57% compares to €529 millions as at 31 July 2019.
