    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$941.56 billion compares to USD$903.49 billion a year ago, representing a 4.21% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 51% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,094.2 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,094.2 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2019, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 30 June 2020, there are 72 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,955 average credit line. In Q2 2020, a total of 24 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,658 average credit line.

    As at 30 September 2020, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,566.3 billions compares to USD$1,544.8 billions a quarter ago, representing a 1.39% increased in 3 months period.
    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,515.0 billions compares to USD$1,447.1 billions same period a year ago, representing a 4.69% increased in 12 months period.

    As at 30 June 2020, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.976 trillion compares to USD$12.857 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.93% increased in 3 months period. The USD$12.976 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$11.304 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,671.8 billion for multifamily residences.
    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.775 trillion compares to USD$12.352 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.42% increased in 12 months period. The USD$12.775 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$11.158 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,617.7 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2019, 585,212 payday loans amounted to USD$229,993,042 were made at Washington by 168,711 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.



  • As at 30 September 2020, there are USD$69.656 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$37.134 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 3, 2020(June, July and August), a 0.80% decrease compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 30 September 2020, there are 53.6 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$170.9 billions for Quarter 3, 2020(June, July and August). There are 57.9 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2020, generating USD$77.8 billions total card billed business for Q3, 2020.

    As at 30 June 2020, there are 340 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$500 billions(USD$493 billions for purchases and USD$6 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 3, 2020(June, July and August) in the United States. There are 800 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2020. USD$667 billions(USD$628 for purchases and USD$39 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 3, 2020 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in the US increase by 2.10% to 1,044.1 million. The estimated total credit cards spending for 2018 in the US up by 5.54% to USD$5,943 billions, with 6.11% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2020, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$2.539 trillion compares to USD$2.689 trillion as at 30 June 2020, representing a 5.58% decreased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 27% or USD$695.97 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.539 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 September 2020, an increase of 36.28% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2019, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$645.02 billion, an increase of 1.58% compares to USD$$634.97 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 September 2020, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$73.755 billion, an increase of 0.35% or CAD$258 million compares to CAD$73.497 billion a month ago.

    As at 30 September 2020, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$110.268 billion, an increase of 0.73% or CAD$799 million compares to CAD$109.469 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2018, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 2.02% to 75.8 millions compares to a year ago. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2018 in Canada up by 8.99% to CAD$547.98 billions(CAD$513.09 billion purchases and CAD$34.89 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 1.43% to 78,565,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2018 in Canada up by 3.759% to CAD$548 billions, with 12.27% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 March 2020, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 5,585,472 for principal cardholders and 1,203,817 for supplementary cardholders.
    For the twelve months ended 31 December 2019, S$67,699.9 million recorded in Singapore for total card billings with S$364.9 million bad debts are written off in the period.

    As at 31 August 2020, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$255,311.9 millions, an increase of 0.33% compares to SGD$254,477.9 millions as at 31 July 2020. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$9,820.4 millions as 31 August 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,872,526 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 11.02% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.85% to 1,336,307. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2018, total card billings amounted to SGD$59.64 billion.



  • As at 31 August 2020, there are 49,388,837 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 32,357,764 cards are active. A total of 497,706 cards is issued in the month of August 2020. The total credit cards spending for August 2020 in Taiwan is NT$236.43 billion, made up of NT$234.67 billion in purchases and NT$1.76 billion in cash advance.

    As at 30 September 2020, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$9.288860 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$103.002 billions), an increase of NT$81.582 billions or 0.89% compares to NT$9.207278 trillions as at 31 August 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.52% to 44,031,472, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2018 in Taiwan is NT$2.884 trillions.



  • As at 31 March 2020, there are 18,075,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 406,000 or 2.30% in 3 months period(compares to 17,669,000 as at 31 December 2019). The rollover amount stood at HKD$25,346 millions as at 31 March 2020.

    As at 31 March 2020, there are 19,609,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, a decrease of 0.50% compares to a quarter ago. 202,989,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q1,2020, generating HKD$170.386 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2019, 824,476,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$763.145 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 3.09% or 584,000 to 19,460,000 as at 31 December 2018, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2018, a total of 727,565,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$737.512 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2020, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 24,386,502, with 57.481 millions transactions amounting to THB146 billions recorded in June 2020.

    As at 31 December 2019, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 8.56% to 23,998,653. And the total credit cards spending for 2019 in Thailand continue to rise by 11.65% to THB2,233 billions.



  • As at 31 March 2020, there are 103.13 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 1st quarter 2020, 81,536,628 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND148,419 billions.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2020, 81,536,628 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND148,419 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 15.91% or 21 millions to 153 millions. 208,195,398 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2018, generating VND447,058 billions.



  • As at 31 July 2020, there are 57.6 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for July 2020 in India is INR455.58 billions, out of 132.0 millions transactions.

    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2019, 1,504.2 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR5,157.06 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in India increase by 24.54% to 44.21 million. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in India up by 31.48% to INR5,700.69 billions, with 24.00% increase in number of card transactions./li>


  • As at 31 July 2020, there are 17,189,950 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for July 2020 in Indonesia is IDR18,070,359 millions, out of 21,561,749 transactions(21,090,413 recorded for purchases with IDR17,538,064 millions in value and 471,336 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR532,295 millions in value).
    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2019, a total of 256,653,209 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR251,851,291 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 0.18% to 17,275,128. The total credit cards transactions for 2018 in Indonesia up by 5.46% to IDR314,294,068 millions, with 3.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 November 2019, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 9,129,868 for main cardholders and 981,027 for supplementary cardholders, with 44.8 million transactions amounting to MYR$12.5 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2019, there are 371.1 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$105 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR40,307.677 millions as at 30 November 2019, an increase of 1.60% compares to previous month. MYR12,960.266 millions credit card loans disbursed in November 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 4.70% to 10,324,623. And the total credit cards spending for 2018 in Malaysia continue to rise by 7.64% to MYR$135.2 billions, out of 447.1 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2020, there are 18,731,260 cards in 13,958,474 accounts in Australia(made up of 17,376,839 credit cards and 1,354,421 charge cards), with 23,9470,975 transactions amounting to A$24.17 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 July 2020, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,840.417 billions, a decrease of 0.10% compares to A$1,842.320 billions as at 30 June 2020.

    As at 31 December 2019, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,828.481 billions, an increase of 3.31% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 August 2020, there are 113,003,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 103,213,000 personal credit cards and 9,790,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of August 2020, 1,243,943,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW64.471528 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 105,063,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.68% while corporate credit card increase by 5.12%. A total of KRW741.32 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2018, out of 13.21 billions transactions.



  • For the month of July 2020, JPY5.32 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY5.24 trillion for purchases and JPY0.08 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2018, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.30% to 278.27 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2018 increased by 14.25% to JPY66.69 trillions, compares to 2017.



  • As at 31 July 2020, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$6.230 billion(a decrease of NZD$95 million or 1.50% compares to NZD$6.325 billion as at end of June 2020). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for July 2020 is NZD$3.742 billion(NZD$3.496 billion for domestic spending and NZD$246 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in China increase by 16.73% to 685.892 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2018 in China up by 35.09% to CNY92,759 billions, with 67.73% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 30 September 2019, there are 5,759,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 76.839 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 3, 2019(July, August, September), generating NOK50.774 billions.
    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2019, 211.874 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK143.241 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway decrease by 2,481,000 or 15.75% to 13,274,000 as at 31st December 2018, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 4.81% in volume and 0.97% in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,326,000 cards with credit function in Norway, a decrease of 538,000 or 7.84% compares to 6,864,000 in the end of 2017. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, a total of NOK168.0 billions recorded from 264.3 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 30 June 2020, the the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,590,796 million, an increase of NOK121,528 millions or 3.50% compares to NOK3,469,269 millions as at 31 May 2020.



  • As at 30 June 2020, there are 64.797 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £59.517 billions. The total credit cards spending for June 2020 in UK is £11.259 billions, out of 225.447 millions transactions. There are 354,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £767 millions recorded in June 2020.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2018 increase by 18.75% to £671.4m, 73.96% or £496.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £174.8m or 26.04% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.77% to 60,113,000 as at 31st December 2018(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £178.70 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 July 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €132,347 millions, an increase by €1,462 millions or 1.12% compares to €130,885 millions as at 30 June 2020.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €198,405 millions, a decrease by €1,222 millions or 0.61% compares to €199,627 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 7.54% to 5,678,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Germany increased by 14.71% to €7.8 billions, out of 126.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €14,156 millions, a decrease by €439 millions or 3.10% compares to €14,595 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 March 2020, there are 5,976,295 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2020, 48.886 millions transactions is recorded, generating €3.728 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2019, there are 6,573,021 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2019, 224.635 millions transactions is recorded, generating €18.386 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 2.19% to 6,507,500. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Netherlands rised by 8.28% to €17.0 billions, with 13.06% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2018, there are 347,600 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 8.24% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 June 2020, there are 19,428,592 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(359,334 or 1.82% lower compares to 19,787,926 as at end of May 2020), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK65.888 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 6.90% to 7,589,800. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Sweden down by 2.32% to €105.1 billions(out of 519.8 millions transactions).

    As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €24,124 millions, an increase by €634 millions or 2.70% compares to €23,490 millions as at 30 April 2020.



  • As at 31 March 2020, there are 38.05 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 0.80 millions or 2.15% compares to 37.25 millions as at 31 December 2019. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2020, 1,093,818 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €36,855.85 millions.

    As at 31 December 2019, there are 37,25 millions credit cards in Spain. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2019, 4,536.207 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €161,343.34 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain decrease by 29.78% to 37,010,100. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Spain decrease by 2.85% to €71.7 billions, with 2.43% decrease in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 May 2020, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €88,860 millions, a decrease by €623 millions or 0.70% compares to €89,483 millions as at 30 April 2020.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €11,292 millions, similar to consumer credit outstanding balance as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 2,260,200 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2018 is €6.5 billion, out of 97.0 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €16,601 millions, an increase by €23 millions or 0.14% compares to €16,578 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 4,379,000 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2018 is €6.9 billions, out of 136.9 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €178,397 millions, an increase by €308 millions or 0.17% compares to €178,089 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 3,616,900 credit cards in France, generating €32.5 billions from 664.7 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €108,168 millions, a decrease by €280 millions or 0.26% compares to €108,448 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy increase by 13.78% to 26,617,000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Italy increase by 22.04% to €80.3 billions, with 23.04% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €15,355 millions, a decrease by €109 millions or 0.70% compares to €15,464 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2020, 17.551 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK12.866 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 0.06% to 1,753,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Denmark increase by 10.71% to DKK49.885 billions(€6.2 billions), with 12.50% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €45,306 millions, an increase by €741 millions or 1.66% compares to €44,565 millions as at 30 April 2020.

  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Poland increase by 1.02% to 5,874,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Poland rise by 10.75% to €10.3 billions, with 12.15% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €17,318 millions, a decrease by €23 millions or 0.13% compares to €17,341 millions as at 30 April 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Austria increase by 2.03% to 1,373,500. The total cards spending for 2018 in Austria increased by 7.02% to €6.1 billions, with 13.81% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2020, there are 7,443,492 cardholders in Switzerland, with 49,086,000 transactions amounting to CHF$3.693 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 5.10% to 6,914,273. A total of 465.38 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2018 with CHF$43.86 billions in value.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 1,305,305 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 90,239,387 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF708,488 millions in value.

    As at 30 June 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €9,242 millions, a decrease by €20 millions or 0.22% compares to €9,262 millions as at 31 May 2020.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 8.34% to 1,283,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Hungary rise by 13.27% to €2.6 billions, with 22.07% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2020, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,826 millions, an increase by €115 millions or 1.18% compares to €9,711 millions as at 31 May 2020.
