    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$903.49 billion compares to USD$865.05 billion a year ago, representing a 4.44% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 52% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,053.5 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,053.5 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2018, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 75 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,830 average credit line. As of Q4 2018, a total of 24 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,701 average credit line.

    As at 30 June 2019, there are 54.0 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$209.2 billions for Quarter 2, 2019(April, May and June). There are 60.2 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2019, generating USD$102.5 billions total card billed business for Q2, 2019.

    As at 31 March 2019, there are 336 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$542 billions(USD$528 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 2, 2019(April, May and June) in the United States. There are 788 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2019. USD$739 billions(USD$691 for purchases and USD$49 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 2, 2019 for the rest of the world.

    Small business loans made up about 24% or USD$526.53 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.202 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 31 March 2019, an increase of 1.82% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$634.97 billion, an increase of 1.92% compares to USD$623.03 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 January 2019, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$82.611 billion, a decrease of 2.64% or CAD$2,237 million compares to CAD$84.848 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2017, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada decrease by 1.33% to 74.3 millions. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2017 in Canada up by 11.15% to CAD$502.78 billions(CAD$469.78 billion purchases and CAD$33.00 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 2.86% to 77,457,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2017 in Canada up by 18.75% to CAD$527.80 billions, with 10.00% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 30 April 2019, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 6,845,853 for main local cardholders and 1,326,511 for supplementary local cardholders with S$25.7 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 30 April 2019, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$264,567.4 millions, a decrease of 0.04% compares to SGD$264,670.1 millions as at 31 March 2019. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$11,104.9 millions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,872,526 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 11.02% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.85% to 1,336,307. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2018, total card billings amounted to SGD$59.64 billion.



  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 45,189,498 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 30,345,786 cards are active. A total of 638,862 cards is issued in the month of May 2019. The total credit cards spending for May 2019 in Taiwan is NT$270.13 billion, made up of NT$267.86 billion in purchases and NT$2.27 billion in cash advance.

    As at 31 May 2019, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$8.421286 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$108.935 billions), an increase of NT$53.104 billions or 0.63% compares to NT$8.368182 trillions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.52% to 44,031,472, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2018 in Taiwan is NT$2.884 trillions.



  • As at 31 December 2018, there are 17,605,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 101,000 or 0.58% in 3 months period(compares to 17,504,000 as at 30 September 2018). The rollover amount stood at HKD$26,368 millions as at 31 December 2018.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 19,460,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 0.70% compares to a quarter ago. 196,619,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q4,2018, generating HKD$196.925 billions.
    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2018, 531,979,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$540.241 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 2.51% or 482,000 to 19,666,000 as at 31 December 2017, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2017, a total of 627,720,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$658.776 billions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 21,715,799, with 51.886 millions transactions amounting to THB168 billions recorded in August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 0.99% to 20,334,780. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Thailand continue to rise by 4.72% to THB1,909 billions.



  • As at 31 December 2018, there are 153 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 4th quarter 2018, 58,518,353 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND125,105 billions.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 208,195,398 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND447,058 billions in value.

  • As at 30 April 2019, there are 48.00 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for April 2019 in India is INR580.50 billions, out of 167.79 millions transactions.

    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2018, 1,212.95 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR4,068.41 billions.

The total credit cards transactions for March 2019 in Indonesia is IDR28,090,127 millions, out of 28,230,128 transactions(27,511,573 recorded for purchases with IDR27,283,352 millions in value and 718,555 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR806,775 millions in value).
    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2018, a total of 249,541,682 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR228,778,487 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 0.18% to 17,275,128. The total credit cards transactions for 2018 in Indonesia up by 5.46% to IDR314,294,068 millions, with 3.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 9,103,878 for main cardholders and 1,035,171 for supplementary cardholders, with 40.6 million transactions amounting to MYR$11.8 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, there are 445.8 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$135.3 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR38,003.057 millions as at 31 August 2018, an increase of 2.44% compares to previous month. MYR12,459.94 millions credit card loans disbursed in August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 7.44% to 9,861,204. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Malaysia continue to rise by 5.99% to MYR$125.6 billions, out of 406.5 millions transactions.


  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 20,983,955 cards in 15,817,529 accounts in Australia(made up of 19,479,968 credit cards and 1,503,987 charge cards), with 249,866,809 transactions amounting to A$28.54 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 May 2019, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,785.127 billions, an increase of 0.18% compares to A$1,781.996 billions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,769.905 billions, an increase of 3.66% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 March 2019, there are 106,626,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 97,601,000 personal credit cards and 9,025,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of March 2019, 1,813,541,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW63.451226 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 105,063,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.68% while corporate credit card increase by 5.12%. A total of KRW741.32 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2018, out of 13.21 billions transactions.



  • For the month of March 2019, JPY5.34 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY5.18 trillion for purchases and JPY0.16 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2018, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.30% to 278.27 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2018 increased by 14.25% to JPY66.69 trillions, compares to 2017.



  • As at 30 June 2019, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$7,286 billion(an increase of NZD$29 million or 0.40% compares to NZD$7.257 billion as at end of May 2019). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for June 2019 is NZD$3.734 billion(NZD$3.188 billion for domestic spending and NZD$546 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in China increase by 26.35% to 587.585 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2017 in China up by 21.54% to CNY68,666 billions, with 52.96% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,144,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 72.526 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 4, 2018(October, November, December), generating NOK51.064 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 259.249 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK187.738 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway decrease by 1,142,000 or 7.25% to 14,613,000 as at 31st December 2018, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.53% in volume and 1.60% in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 7,739,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 875,000 or 12.75% compares to 6,864,000 in the end of 2017. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, a total of NOK168.0 billions recorded from 264.3 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 30 April 2019, the the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,305,154 million, a decrease of NOK64,325 millions or 1.91% compares to NOK3,369,479 millions as at 28 February 2019.



  • As at 31 March 2019, there are 61.344 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £65.750 billions. The total credit cards spending for March 2019 in UK is £14.461 billions, out of 261.505 millions transactions. There are 535,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,156 millions recorded in March 2019.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2018 increase by 18.75% to £671.4m, 73.96% or £496.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £174.8m or 26.04% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.77% to 60,113,000 as at 31st December 2018(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £207.47 billions in transactions.

    As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €156,343 millions, a decrease by €62 millions or 0.04% compares to €156,405 millions as at 31 March 2019.



  • As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €197,362 millions, an increase by €572 millions or 0.29% compares to €196,790 millions as at 31 March 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 2.02% to 5,792,700. The total cards spending for 2017 in Germany lowered by 2.86% to €6.8 billions, out of 110 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €16,368 millions, a decrease by €8 millions or 0.05% compares to €16,376 millions as at 31 March 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,507,400 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 203.392 millions transactions is recorded, generating €16.985 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 378,800 credit cards in Netherlands, an increase of 29.24% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 20,420,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(12,000 or 0.06% higher compares to 20,408,000 as at end of April 2019), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK80.001 billions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 8.89% to 8,151,900. The total credit cards spending for 2017 in Sweden rise by 1.61% to €107.6 billions(out of 3,352 millions transactions).

    As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €22,177 millions, a decrease by €116 millions or 0.52% compares to €22,293 millions as at 31 March 2019..



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 36.34 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 0.57 millions or 1.59% compares to 35.77 millions as at 30 June 2018. For the 9 months ended 30 September 2018, 2,851.153 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €108,036.27 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 52.35 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.60 millions or 7.38% compares to 48.75 millions as at 31 December 2016. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 3,429.385 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €135,246.47 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 7.37% to 52,706,300. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2017 in Spain increase by 9.82% to €73.8 billions, with 11.41% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 March 2019, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €90,056 millions, an increase by €1,026 millions or 1.15% compares to €89,030 millions as at 28 February 2019.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €10,849 millions, an increase by €73 millions or 0.68% compares to €10,776 millions as at 28 February 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 2,360,800 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2017 is €300 million, out of 2.4 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €15,816 millions, an increase by €40 millions or 0.25% compares to at €15,776 millions as at 28 February 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 4,297,200 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2017 is €7.2 billions, out of 139.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €172,573 millions, an increase by €2,023 millions or 1.19% compares to at €170,550 millions as at 28 February 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 3,983,800 credit cards in France, generating €27.4 billions from 554.4 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €105,033 millions, an increase by €2,524 millions or 2.46% compares to €103,759 millions as at 28 February 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy decrease by 2.70% to 23,393,600. However, the total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2017 in Italy increase by 5.62% to €65.8 billions, with 10.12% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,505 millions, an increase by €207 millions or 1.27% compares to €16,298 millions as at 28 February 2019.

    For the 9 months ended 30 September 2018, 48.128 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK37.089 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 1.24% to 1,755,000. The total cards spending for 2017 in Denmark increase by 14.93% to DKK45.352 billions(€6.1 billions), with 2.42% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €44,799 millions, an increase by €432 millions or 0.97% compares to €44,367 millions as at 28 February 2019.

  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Poland decrease by 1.18% to 5,815,300. The total cards spending for 2017 in Poland rise by 12.05% to €9.3 billions, with 10.44% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,464 millions, a decrease by €71 millions or 0.38% compares to €18,535 millions as at 31 March 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Austria decrease by 0.91% to 1,346,200. The total cards spending for 2017 in Austria increased by 5.56% to €5.7 billions, with 10.94% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 April 2019, there are 7,088,553 cardholders in Switzerland, with 44,591,000 transactions amounting to CHF$4.048 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 5.10% to 6,914,273. A total of 465.38 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2018 with CHF$43.86 billions in value.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 1,305,305 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.

    As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,387 millions, an increase by €2 millions or 0.03% compares to €7,385 millions as at 31 March 2019.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Hungary increase by 3.27% to 1,400,400. The total cards spending for 2017 in Hungary rise by 15.79% to €2.2 billions, with 16.49% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 April 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,657 millions, an increase by €124 millions or 1.30% compares to €9,533 millions as at 31 March 2019.
