    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$865.05 billion compares to USD$799.84 billion a year ago, representing a 8.15% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 52% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,028.5 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,028.5 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2017, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 30 June 2018, there are 73 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,693 average credit line. As of Q2 2018, a total of 24 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,608 average credit line.

    As at 31 June 2018, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$$1,412.0 billions compares to USD$1,407.1 billions a quarter ago, representing a 0.35% increased in 3 months period.
    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding student loan in the US stood at USD$1,375.5 billions compares to USD$1,299.7 billions same period a year ago, representing a 5.83% increased in 12 months period.

    As at 30 June 2018, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.071 trillion compares to USD$11.981 trillion a quarter ago, representing a 0.75% increased in 3 months period. The USD$11.978 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.646 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,331.547 billion for multifamily residences.
    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$11.917 trillion compares to USD$11.486 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.75% increased in 12 months period. The USD$11.917 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.606 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,310.729 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2016, 776,824 payday loans amounted to USD$273,746,893 were made at Washington by 196,117 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are USD$69.253 billions outstanding credit card loans for Discover Card. USD$35.896 billions is generated for Discover card sales in Quarter 3, 2018(July, August and September), a 11.61% increase compares to the same quarter a year ago.

    As at 30 September 2018, there are 222 millions MasterCard credit and charge cards in the United States, generating USD$213 billions(USD$205 billions for purchases and USD$8 billions for cash advances) for Quarter 3, 2018(July, August and September). There are 631 million MasterCard credit and charge cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2018, generating USD$535 billions(USD$496 billions for purchases and USD$39 billions for cash advances) for Q3, 2018.

    As at 30 September 2018, there are 53.0 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$194.6 billions for Quarter 3, 2018(July, August and September). There are 62.1 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 September 2018, generating USD$100.1 billions total card billed business for Q3, 2018.

    As at 30 June 2018, there are 335 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$512 billions(USD$498 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 3, 2018(July, August and September) in the United States. There are 764 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2018. USD$725 billions(USD$673 for purchases and USD$52 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 3, 2018 for the rest of the world.



  • As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in the US increase by 22.45% to 1,022.6 million. The estimated total credit cards spending for 2017 in the US up by 5.87% to USD$5,730.88 billions, with 6.46% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2018, total outstanding commercial and industrial loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$2.087 trillion compares to USD$2.077 trillion as at 30 June 2018, representing a 0.48% increased in 3 months period.

    Small business loans made up about 25% or USD$520.50 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.087 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 September 2018, an increase of 1.57% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2017, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$623.05 billion, an increase of 1.41% compares to USD$614.40 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 August 2018, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$81.838 billion, an increase of 0.31% or CAD$254 million compares to CAD$81.584 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 August 2018, Canada outstanding personal loan balances stood at CAD$103.028 billion, an increase of 0.70% or CAD$721 million compares to CAD$102.307 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2017, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada decrease by 1.33% to 74.3 millions. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2017 in Canada up by 11.15% to CAD$502.78 billions(CAD$469.78 billion purchases and CAD$33.00 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 2.86% to 77,457,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2017 in Canada up by 18.75% to CAD$527.80 billions, with 10.00% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 August 2018, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 7,022,556 of main cardholders and 1,335,819 for supplementary cardholders with S$26.4 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 31 July 2018, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$265,065.7 millions, a decrease of 0.08% compares to SGD$265,283.4 millions as at 30 June 2018. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$10,896.5 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 7,724,041 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 1.20% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.39% to 1,389,750. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2017, total card billings amounted to SGD$54.28 billion.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 43,420,689 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 29,079,610 cards are active. A total of 439,505 cards is issued in the month of September 2018. The total credit cards spending for September 2018 in Taiwan is NT$221.07 billion, made up of NT$218.94 billion in purchases and NT$2.13 billion in cash advance.

    As at 30 September 2018, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan NT$8.175513 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$110.947 billions), an increase of NT$30.621 billions or 0.38% compares to NT$8.144892 trillions as at 31 August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 2.53% to 41,729,994, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2017 in Taiwan is NT$2.623 trillions.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 17,311,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 187,000 or 1.09% in 3 months period(compares to 17,124,000 as at 31 March 2018). The rollover amount stood at HKD$25,368 millions as at 30 June 2018.

    As at 31 March 2018, there are 19,886,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 1.12% compares to a quarter ago. 167,007,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q1,2018, generating HKD$182.613 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 627,720,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$658.776 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 0.74% or 140,000 to 19,184,000 as at 31 December 2016, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2016, a total of 563,940,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$611.992 billions.



  • As at 31 May 2018, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 20,865,219, with 50.500 millions transactions amounting to THB164 billions recorded in May 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 0.99% to 20,334,780. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Thailand continue to rise by 4.72% to THB1,909 billions.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 141.59 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 2nd quarter 2018, 49,912,075 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND104,673 billions.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2018, 94,222,477 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND204,066 billions in value.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of bank cards in Vietnam increase by 18.92% or 21 millions to 132 millions. 151,130,814 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals in 2017, generating VND352,347 billions.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 41.78 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for September 2018 in India is INR464.72 billions, out of 139.03 millions transactions.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 374.25 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR1,244.36 billions.

    As at 31 December 2016, the number of credit cards in India increase by 24.48% to 28.32 million. The total credit cards spending for 2016 in India up by 31.10% to INR3,011.66 billions, with 32.58% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 17,224,684 credit cards in Indonesia. The total credit cards transactions for September 2018 in Indonesia is IDR24,382,544 millions, out of 26,274,567 transactions(25,612,394 recorded for purchases with IDR23,657,612 millions in value and 662,173 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR724,932 millions in value).
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, a total of 82,064,249 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR73,372,664 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Indonesia decrease by 0.93% to 17,244,127. The total credit cards transactions for 2017 in Indonesia up by 6.05% to IDR298,016,289 millions, with 8.43% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2018, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 9,213,354 for main cardholders and 1,085,237 for supplementary cardholders, with 37.4 million transactions amounting to MYR$11.2 billion recorded in the month.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR38,003.057 millions as at 31 August 2018, an increase of 2.44% compares to previous month. MYR12,459.94 millions credit card loans disbursed in August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 7.44% to 9,861,204. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Malaysia continue to rise by 5.99% to MYR$125.6 billions, out of 406.5 millions transactions.


  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 16,000,555 cardholders in Australia, with 221,393,181 transactions amounting to A$25.40 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 30 September 2018, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,755.216 billions, an increase of 0.20% compares to A$1,751.733 billions as at 31 August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,707.363 billions, an increase of 5.04% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 August 2018, there are 103,541,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 94,778,000 personal credit cards and 8,764,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of August 2018, 1,173,281,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW61.986,850 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 4.00% to 99,462,000. Personal credit cards increase by 3.69% while corporate credit card increase by 7.41%. A total of KRW702.97 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2017, out of 11.97 billions transactions.



  • For the month of July 2018, JPY4.95 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY4.82 trillion for purchases and JPY0.13 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2017, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.26% to 272.01 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2017 increased by 8.23% to JPY58.37 trillions, compares to 2016.



  • As at 30 September 2018, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$7.257 billion(an increase of NZD$83 million or 1.16% compares to NZD$7.174 billion as at end of August 2018). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for August 2018 is NZD$3.646 billion(NZD$3.092 billion for domestic spending and NZD$554 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in China increase by 26.35% to 587.585 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2017 in China up by 21.54% to CNY68,666 billions, with 52.96% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 6,139,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 65.144 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 2, 2018(April, May and June), generating NOK49.355 billions.
    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2018, 118.697 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK88.495 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway increase by 952,000 or 6.27% to 16,147,000 as at 31st December 2017, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 7.07% in volume and 4.26% in value.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 7,253,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 445,000 or 6.54% compares to 6,808,000 in the end of 2016. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, a total of NOK145.2 billions recorded from 215.8 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 31 July 2018, the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,173,372 million, a decrease of NOK65,461 millions or 2.02% compares to NOK3,238,833 millions as at 3o June 2018.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 59.794 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £67.777 billions. The total credit cards spending for September 2018 in UK is £13.621 billions, out of 252.138 millions transactions. There are 525,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,154 millions recorded in September 2018.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2017 decrease by 8.43% to £566.0m, 72.01% or £407.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £158.4m or 27.99% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK decrease by 0.73% to 59,069,000 as at 31st December 2017(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £178.70 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €150,894 millions, a decrease by €423 millions or 0.28% compares to €151,317 millions as at 31 July 2018.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €194,286 millions, an increase by €613 millions or 0.32% compares to €193,673 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 2.02% to 5,792,700. The total cards spending for 2017 in Germany lowered by 2.86% to €6.8 billions, out of 110 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €16,896 millions, an increase by €90 millions or 0.54% compares to €16,806 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 30 June 2018, there are 6,418,352 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands.For the 6 months ended 30 June 2018, 94.764 millions transactions is recorded, generating €8.212 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2017, there are 6,367,963 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 179.871 millions transactions is recorded, generating €15.687 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 1.13% to 6,368,000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2017 in Netherlands rised by 8.28% to €15.7 billions, with 12.53% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2017, there are 378,800 credit cards in Netherlands, an increase of 29.24% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 September 2018, there are 24,248,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(78,000 or 0.32% higher compares to 24,170,000 as at end of August 2018), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK87.952 billions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 8.89% to 8,151,900. The total credit cards spending for 2017 in Sweden rise by 1.61% to €107.6 billions(out of 3,352 millions transactions).

    As at 31 July 2018, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €21,565 millions, an increase by €332 millions or 1.56% compares to €21,233 millions as at 30 June 2018.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 53.76 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 1.41 millions or 2.69% compares to 52.35 millions as at 31 December 2017. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 881.181 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €32,982.67 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 52.35 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 3.60 millions or 7.38% compares to 48.75 millions as at 31 December 2016. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 3,429.385 millions payment card transactions(credit and debit cards) recorded at point of sales, with a total value of €135,246.47 millions.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain increase by 7.37% to 52,706,300. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2017 in Spain increase by 9.82% to €73.8 billions, with 11.41% increase in number of card transactions.

    As at 31 August 2018, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €85,656 millions, an increase by €465 millions or 0.55% compares to €85,191 millions as at 31 July 2018.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €11,019 millions, a decrease by €5 millions or 0.05% compares to €11,024 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 2,360,800 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2017 is €300 million, out of 2.4 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €15,760 millions, an increase by €50 millions or 0.32% compares to at €15,710 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 4,297,200 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2017 is €7.2 billions, out of 139.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance in France stood at €168,919 millions, an increase by €350 millions or 0.21% compares to at €169,269 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, there are 3,983,800 credit cards in France, generating €27.4 billions from 554.4 millions credit card transactions.



  • s at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €100,142 millions, a decrease by €96 millions or 0.10% compares to €100,238 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy decrease by 2.70% to 23,393,600. However, the total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2017 in Italy increase by 5.62% to €65.8 billions, with 10.12% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,277 millions, an increase by €7 millions or 0.04% compares to €16,270 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    For the 6 months ended 30 June 2018, 30.961 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK24.374 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 1.24% to 1,755,000. The total cards spending for 2017 in Denmark increase by 14.93% to DKK45.352 billions(€6.1 billions), with 2.42% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €43,268 millions, an increase by €219 millions or 0.51% compares to €43,049 millions as at 31 July 2018.

  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Poland decrease by 1.18% to 5,815,300. The total cards spending for 2017 in Poland rise by 12.05% to €9.3 billions, with 10.44% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,773 millions, a decrease by €50 millions or 0.27% compares to €18,823 millions as at 31 July 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Austria decrease by 0.91% to 1,346,200. The total cards spending for 2017 in Austria increased by 5.56% to €5.7 billions, with 10.94% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, there are 6,733,760 cardholders in Switzerland, with 40,139,000 transactions amounting to CHF$3.654 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 3.67% to 6,578,735. A total of 400.70 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2017 with CHF$40.33 billions in value.



  • As at 31 March 2018, there are 1,294,031 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 90,239,387 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF708,488 millions in value.

    As at 31 July 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,518 millions, an increase by €258 millions or 3.55% compares to €7,260 millions as at 30 June 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Hungary increase by 3.27% to 1,400,400. The total cards spending for 2017 in Hungary rise by 15.79% to €2.2 billions, with 16.49% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,337 millions, an increase by €222 millions or 2.44% compares to €9,115 millions as at 30 June 2018..

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Czech Republic decrease by 6.29% to 1,456,000. The total credit cards spending for 2017 in Czech Republic rise by 21.88% to €3.9 billions, with 9.81% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 July 2018, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Latvia stood at €506 millions, an increase by €2 millions or 0.40% compares to €504 millions as at 30 June 2018.
