    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding credit card loans by FDIC-insured banks in the US stood at USD$903.49 billion compares to USD$865.05 billion a year ago, representing a 4.44% increased in 12 months period. Credit card loans representing about 52% of the total loans to individual. Total revolving consumer credit amounted to USD$1,053.5 billion(seasonally adjusted)/USD$1,053.5 billion(not seasonally adjusted) as at 31 December 2018, above the height of financial crisis in 2008(with USD$1,004.0 billion revolving consumer credit).

    As at 31 March 2019, there are 76 million subprime credit card accounts in the US, with $3,859 average credit line. As of Q1 2019, a total of 24 million new subprime credit card accounts opened, with $2,709 average credit line.

    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding home mortgage in the US stood at USD$12.298 trillion compares to USD$11.911 trillion same period a year ago, representing a 3.25% increased in 12 months period. The USD$12.298 trillion is made up of two type of properties, USD$10.882 trillion for 1 to 4 family residences and USD$1,415.738 billion for multifamily residences.

    In 2017, 633,882 payday loans amounted to USD$248,772,165 were made at Washington by 180,688 customers. Whereas in Colorado, 414,284 payday loans amounted to USD$166,353,683 were made by 207,220 customers in 2016.

    As at 30 June 2019, there are 54.0 millions American Express cards in the United States, with total card billed business(including cash advances) of USD$209.2 billions for Quarter 2, 2019(April, May and June). There are 60.2 million American Express cards outside the U.S. as at 30 June 2019, generating USD$102.5 billions total card billed business for Q2, 2019.

    As at 31 March 2019, there are 336 millions Visa credit cards in the United States. USD$542 billions(USD$528 billions for purchases and USD$14 billions for cash advances) is generated for Quarter 2, 2019(April, May and June) in the United States. There are 788 million Visa credit cards outside the U.S. as at 31 March 2019. USD$739 billions(USD$691 for purchases and USD$49 for cash advances) is generated in Quarter 2, 2019 for the rest of the world.

    Small business loans made up about 29% or USD$644.52 billion of the total outstanding USD$2.215 trillion commercial and industrial loans as at 30 June 2019, an increase of 22.40% compares to the same period a year ago.

    As at 31 December 2018, total outstanding small business loans stood USD$634.97 billion, an increase of 1.92% compares to USD$623.03 billion in the same period a year ago.



  • As at 30 June 2019, Canada outstanding credit card balances stood at CAD$85.023 billion, an increase of 1.22% or CAD$1,025 million compares to CAD$83.998 billion a month ago.

    As at 31 October 2018, the number of visa and mastercard in Canada increase by 2.02% to 75.8 millions compares to a year ago. The total visa and mastercard spending for 12 months ending 31 October 2018 in Canada up by 8.99% to CAD$547.98 billions(CAD$513.09 billion purchases and CAD$34.89 billions cash advances).

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Canada increase by 2.86% to 77,457,000. The total card spending for 12 months ended 31 December 2017 in Canada up by 18.75% to CAD$527.80 billions, with 10.00% increase in number of card transactions.




Asia and Oceania

  • As at 31 May 2019, the number of credit cards in Singapore stood at 6,859,384 for main local cardholders and 1,323,130 for supplementary local cardholders with S$26.4 million bad debts are written off in the month.

    As at 30 June 2019, consumer loans in Singapore is amounted to SGD$263,577.4 millions, a decrease of 0.10% compares to SGD$263,833.2 millions as at 31 May 2019. Total credit cards loans is amounted to SGD$11,396.4 millions as at 30 June 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,872,526 main cardholders in Singapore, a decrease of 11.02% in 12 months period. Whereas supplementary cardholders decrease by 3.85% to 1,336,307. For the twelve months ended 31 December 2018, total card billings amounted to SGD$59.64 billion.



  • As at 31 July 2019, there are 45,623,874 credit cards in Taiwan, however only 30,653,742 cards are active. A total of 646,198 cards is issued in the month of July 2019. The total credit cards spending for July 2019 in Taiwan is NT$282.33 billion, made up of NT$280.03 billion in purchases and NT$2.30 billion in cash advance.

    As at 31 July 2019, total outstanding consumer loans in Taiwan stood at NT$8.527764 trillions(credit card loans stood at NT$110.601 billions), an increase of NT$58.691 billions or 0.69% compares to NT$8.469073 trillions as at 30 June 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Taiwan increase by 5.52% to 44,031,472, compares to the same period a year ago. Total credit cards spending for 2018 in Taiwan is NT$2.884 trillions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, there are 17,699,000 credit card accounts in Hong Kong, an increase of 94,000 or 0.53% in 3 months period(compares to 17,605,000 as at 31 December 2018). The rollover amount stood at HKD$24,987 millions as at 31 March 2019.

    As at 31 March 2019, there are 19,490,000 credit cards in Hong Kong, an increase of 0.15% compares to a quarter ago. 191,616,000 credit card transactions recorded in Q1,2019, generating HKD$193.200 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 728,598,000 credit card transactions recorded, with a total value of HKD$737.166 billions.

    The number of credit cards in Hong Kong increase by 2.51% or 482,000 to 19,666,000 as at 31 December 2017, compares to the same period a year ago. In 2017, a total of 627,720,000 credit card transactions recorded, generating HKD$658.776 billions.



  • As at 31 August 2018, the number of credit cards in Thailand stood at 21,715,799, with 51.886 millions transactions amounting to THB168 billions recorded in August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Thailand increase by 0.99% to 20,334,780. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Thailand continue to rise by 4.72% to THB1,909 billions.



  • As at 31 March 2019, there are 158 millions bank cards in Vietnam. For the 1st quarter 2019, 55,757,772 transactions recorded at POS/EFTPOS/EDC terminals, generating VND132,922 billions.

  • As at 31 July 2019, there are 50.3 millions credit cards in India. The total credit cards spending for July 2019 in India is INR596.16 billions, out of 178.4 millions transactions.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, 463.3 millions of credit card transactions is recorded in India with a total value of INR1,611.12 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in India increase by 224.54% to 44.21 million. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in India up by 31.48% to INR5,700.69 billions, with 24.00% increase in number of card transactions./li>

The total credit cards transactions for June 2019 in Indonesia is IDR25,907,896 millions, out of 27,120,802 transactions(26,495,911 recorded for purchases with IDR25,192,736 millions in value and 624,891 recorded for cash withdrawal with IDR715,160 millions in value).
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, a total of 83,692,199 transactions is recorded in Indonesia with a total value of IDR81,929,512 millions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Indonesia increase by 0.18% to 17,275,128. The total credit cards transactions for 2018 in Indonesia up by 5.46% to IDR314,294,068 millions, with 3.35% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the number of credit cards in Malaysia stood at 9,160,674 for main cardholders and 1,026,829 for supplementary cardholders, with 41.9 million transactions amounting to MYR$12.1 billion recorded in the month.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, there are 118.5 millions of credit card payment transactions, with a total value of MYR$34.4 billions recorded.

    Loans for credit card in Malaysia stood at MYR38,003.057 millions as at 31 August 2018, an increase of 2.44% compares to previous month. MYR12,459.94 millions credit card loans disbursed in August 2018.

    As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in Malaysia increase by 7.44% to 9,861,204. And the total credit cards spending for 2017 in Malaysia continue to rise by 5.99% to MYR$125.6 billions, out of 406.5 millions transactions.


  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 20,983,955 cards in 15,817,529 accounts in Australia(made up of 19,479,968 credit cards and 1,503,987 charge cards), with 249,866,809 transactions amounting to A$28.54 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 May 2019, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,785.127 billions, an increase of 0.18% compares to A$1,781.996 billions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, outstanding Lending to Persons in Australia stood at A$1,769.905 billions, an increase of 3.66% in 12 months period.

    The number of charge and credit cardholders in Australia increase by 2.29% in 12 months period to 16,686,308 as at 31 December 2016. Total card transactions increase by 3.50% to A$312.55 billion.



  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 103,297,000 credit cards in South Korea, made up of 94,197,000 personal credit cards and 9,100,000 corporate credit cards. For the month of May 2019, 1,284,566,000 transactions recorded with a total value of KRW68.237932 trillions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in South Korea increase by 5.63% to 105,063,000. Personal credit cards increase by 5.68% while corporate credit card increase by 5.12%. A total of KRW741.32 trillions credit cards spending recorded in 2018, out of 13.21 billions transactions.



  • For the month of May 2019, JPY5.39 trillion credit card transactions recorded in Japan(JPY5.21 trillion for purchases and JPY0.18 trillion for cash advances).

    As at 31 March 2018, the number of credit cards in Japan increase by 2.30% to 278.27 millions, compares to the same period a year ago. The total credit card transactions for 2018 increased by 14.25% to JPY66.69 trillions, compares to 2017.



  • As at 30 June 2019, outstanding credit card balances in New Zealand stood at NZD$7,286 billion(an increase of NZD$29 million or 0.40% compares to NZD$7.257 billion as at end of May 2019). Total billings for New Zealand issued cards for June 2019 is NZD$3.734 billion(NZD$3.188 billion for domestic spending and NZD$546 million for overseas spending).

    As at 31 December 2014, the number of credit cards in New Zealand decrease by 2.56% to 2,608,147. A total of 334,048,524 credit card transactions recorded in 2014 with NZ$36,080 millions in value.



  • As at 31 December 2017, the number of credit cards in China increase by 26.35% to 587.585 million. The total payment cards(credit and debit cards) spending for 2017 in China up by 21.54% to CNY68,666 billions, with 52.96% increase in number of card transactions.



Europe

  • As at 31 March 2019, there are 6,150,000 credit and charge cards in Norway. 62.939 million transactions is recorded in Quarter 1, 2019(January, February, March), generating NOK43.372 billions.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, 259.249 millions charge and credit cards transactions recorded, generating NOK187.738 billions.

    The number of payment cards in Norway decrease by 1,142,000 or 7.25% to 14,613,000 as at 31st December 2018, compares to the same period a year ago. The payment cards usage in Norway increased by 6.53% in volume and 1.60% in value.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 7,739,000 cards with credit function in Norway, an increase of 875,000 or 12.75% compares to 6,864,000 in the end of 2017. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2018, a total of NOK168.0 billions recorded from 264.3 millions credit card transactions.

    As at 31 July 2019, the the outstanding balance for household loans in Norway stood at NOK3,350,992 million, a decrease of NOK77,439 millions or 2.26% compares to NOK3,428,431 millions as at 30 June 2019.



  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 61.699 millions credit cards in the United Kingdom, with outstanding balances of £66.260 billions. The total credit cards spending for May 2019 in UK is £15.298 billions, out of 287.330 millions transactions. There are 564,000 balance transfer transactions amounted to £1,215 millions recorded in May 2019.

    Credit cards fraud in United Kingdom for 2018 increase by 18.75% to £671.4m, 73.96% or £496.6m of card fraud is committed in UK, while £174.8m or 26.04% is committed abroad. The number of credit cards in UK increase by 1.77% to 60,113,000 as at 31st December 2018(compares to the same period a year ago), generating £207.47 billions in transactions.

    As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in United Kingdom stood at €152,194 millions, a decrease by €4,149 millions or 2.65% compares to €156,343 millions as at 30 April 2019.



  • As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Germany stood at €199,726 millions, an increase by €1,661 millions or 0.84% compares to €198,065 millions as at 31 May 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Germany increase by 7.54% to 5,678,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Germany increased by 14.71% to €7.8 billions, out of 126.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Netherlands stood at €15,943 millions, a decrease by €12 millions or 0.08% compares to €15,955 millions as at 31 May 2019.

    As at 31 March 2019, there are 6,475,219 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, 48.921 millions transactions is recorded, generating €4.225 billions in total spending.
    As at 31 December 2018, there are 6,507,400 cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands. For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 203.392 millions transactions is recorded, generating €16.985 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Netherlands increase by 2.19% to 6,507,500. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Netherlands rised by 8.28% to €17.0 billions, with 13.06% increase in number of card transactions.
    As at 31 December 2018, there are 347,600 credit cards in Netherlands, a decrease of 8.24% compares to the same period a year ago.



  • As at 31 July 2019, there are 20,008,000 convenience credit cards and extended credit cards in Sweden(210,000 or 1.04% lower compares to 20,218,000 as at end of June 2019), with the outstanding balance stood at SEK80.374 billions.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Sweden decrease by 6.90% to 7,589,800. The total credit cards spending for 2018 in Sweden down by 2.32% to €105.1 billions(out of 3,547.6 millions transactions).

    As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit(credit cards and personal loans) outstanding balance in Sweden stood at €22,838 millions, an increase by €565 millions or 2.54% compares to €22,273 millions as at 31 May 2019.



  • As at 31 December 2018, there are 36.64 millions credit cards in Spain, an increase of 0.30 millions or 0.83% compares to 36.34 millions as at 30 September 2018.     As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Spain decrease by 29.78% to 37,010,100. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Spain decrease by 2.85% to €71.7 billions, with 2.43% decrease in number of card transactions.

    As at 30 June 2019, the outstanding balance for consumer credit, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Spain stood at €95,247 millions, an increase by €3,035 millions or 3.29% compares to €92,212 millions as at 31 May 2019.



  • As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Belgium stood at €11,110 millions, an increase by €61 millions or 0.55% compares to €11,049 millions as at 31 May 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 2,367,600 credit cards in Belgium. The total credit cards spending in Belgium for 2018 is €6.3 billion, out of 95.3 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Finland stood at €16,122 millions, an increase by €91 millions or 0.57% compares to €16,031 millions as at 31 May 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 4,379,000 credit cards in Finland. The total credit cards spending in Finland for 2018 is €6.9 billions, out of 136.9 millions transactions.



  • As at 30 June 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in France stood at €177,024 millions, an increase by €446 millions or 0.25% compares to €176,578 millions as at 31 May 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, there are 3,616,900 credit cards in France, generating €32.5 billions from 664.7 millions credit card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Italy stood at €106,895 millions, an increase by €835 millions or 0.79% compares to €106,060 millions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of cards with a credit and/or delayed debit function in Italy increase by 20.96% to 28,297,2000. The total cards(with a credit and/or delayed debit function) spending for 2018 in Italy increase by 22.04% to €80.3 billions, with 23.09% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Denmark stood at €16,207 millions, a decrease by €69 millions or 0.42% compares to €16,276 millions as at 30 April 2019.

    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2019, 16.525 millions credit card transactions recorded in Denmark, generating DKK12.947 billions in total spending.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Denmark decrease by 0.06% to 1,753,000. The total cards spending for 2018 in Denmark increase by 10.71% to DKK49.885 billions(€6.2 billions), with 12.50% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Poland stood at €45,833 millions, an increase by €458 millions or 1.01% compares to €45,375 millions as at 30 April 2019.

  • As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Poland increase by 1.02% to 5,874,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Poland rise by 10.75% to €10.3 billions, with 12.15% increase recorded in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Austria stood at €18,443 millions, a decrease by €21 millions or 0.11% compares to €18,464 millions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Austria increase by 2.03% to 1,373,500. The total cards spending for 2018 in Austria increased by 7.02% to €6.1 billions, with 13.81% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, there are 7,139,892 cardholders in Switzerland, with 43,823,000 transactions amounting to CHF$3.845 billion recorded in the month.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Switzerland increase by 5.10% to 6,914,273. A total of 465.38 millions credit card transactions recorded in 2018 with CHF$43.86 billions in value.



  • As at 30 June 2018, there are 1,305,305 credit cards in Hungary.
    For the 3 months ended 31 March 2018, 24,300,999 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF187,529 millions in value.
    For the 12 months ended 31 December 2017, 90,239,387 transactions recorded with Hungary credit cards, generating HUF708,488 millions in value.

    As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Hungary stood at €7,406 millions, an increase by €19 millions or 0.26% compares to €7,387 millions as at 30 April 2019.

    As at 31 December 2018, the number of credit cards in Hungary decrease by 8.34% to 1,283,600. The total cards spending for 2018 in Hungary rise by 13.27% to €2.6 billions, with 22.07% increase in number of card transactions.



  • As at 31 May 2019, the consumer credit outstanding balance, which is inclusive of credit cards and personal loans in Czech Republic stood at €9,689 millions, an increase by €32 millions or 0.33% compares to €9,657 millions as at 30 April 2019.
