Fra 31. mars 2022, lå den utestående saldoen for kredittkort utlån på 43.268 millioner kroner(23.797 millioner kroner fra banker og 19.471 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap). Dette var en nedgang på 2.248 millioner kroner, 4,94% sammenlignet med 45.516 millioner kroner(22.844 millioner kroner fra banker og 22.672 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap) den 31. desember 2021.

Fra 31. mars 2021, lå den utestående saldoen for kredittkort utlån til husholdninger på 42.151 millioner kroner(23.738 millioner kroner fra banker og 18.413 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap). Dette var en nedgang på 2.723 millioner kroner, 6,07% sammenlignet med 44.874 millioner kroner(25.684 millioner kroner fra banker og 19.190 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap) den 31. desember 2020.

Fra 30. juni 2021, lå den utestående saldoen for kredittkort utlån til husholdninger på 42.151 millioner kroner(23.206 millioner kroner fra banker og 18.945 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap). Dette var lignet på kredittkort utlån den 31. mars 2021.

Fra 30. september 2021, lå den utestående saldoen for kredittkort utlån på 43.329 millioner kroner(23.119 millioner kroner fra banker og 20.210 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap). Dette var en økning på 1.178 millioner kroner, 2,79% sammenlignet med 42.151 millioner kroner(23.206 millioner kroner fra banker og 18.945 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap) den 30. juni 2021.

Fra 31. desember 2021, lå den utestående saldoen for kredittkort utlån på 45.516 millioner kroner(22.844 millioner kroner fra banker og 22.672 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap). Dette var en økning på 2.187 millioner kroner, 5,05% sammenlignet med 43.329 millioner kroner(23.119 millioner kroner fra banker og 20.210 millioner kroner fra finansieringsselskap) den 30. september 2021.

Kredittkort i Norge 2020-2021

I 2021 har Norge en befolkning på 5,39 millioner med et BNP (bruttonasjonalprodukt) på 4.144 milliarder kroner. Dette tilsvarer NOK 768.831 av BNP per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Luxembourg.

Pr. 31. desember 2021 er det 12.864.000 betalingskort utstedt i Norge (2,39 kort per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Storbritannia), en nedgang på 41.000 eller 0,32% sammenlignet med 12.905.000 i 2020. Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 20.167.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 12.864.000 kort. Det er 5.296.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2021, en nedgang på 235.000 eller 4,44% sammenlignet med 5.296.000 i 2020. Kort med debetfunksjon øker med 170.000 eller 1,17% til 14.665.000 i 2021, sammenlignet med 14.495.000 i 2020.

Sum kortbetalinger i volum og verdi
For 2021 var det 2.582,30 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (479,09 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en økning på 136,20 millioner eller 5,57% sammenlignet med 2.446,10 millioner i 2020. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.561,70 millioner for varekjøp, mens 20,60 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 266,30 millioner eller 10,31% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en nedgang på 2,20 millioner eller 0,82% sammenliknet med 268,50 millioner i 2020. 2.303,90 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en økning på 137,90 millioner eller 6,37% sammenlignet med 2.166,00 millioner i 2020. 11,8 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,3 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2021 er € 98,87 milliarder i verdi (18.343 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en økning på 6,66 milliarder euro eller 7,22% sammenligner til € 92,21 milliarder i 2020. Dette betyr også € 38,29 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 15,89 millioner euro eller 16,07% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på € 0,17 milliarder eller 1,08% sammenlignet med € 15,72 milliarder i 2020. € 81,67 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 6,39 milliarder eller 8,49% sammenligner til € 75,28 milliarder i 2020. € 1,28 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,03 milliarder for e-penger.

Ved utgangen av 2019 var det 166.170 salgssteder, som aksepterte BankAxept-kort, i 107.286 butikker og andre kjøpesentre.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2021 er NOK 1.004,5 milliarder (NOK 186.364 per innbygger), en økning på NOK 67,6 milliarder eller 7,22% sammenliknet med NOK 936,9 milliarder i 2020. Dette utgjør også NOK 388,99 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales NOK 161,4 milliarder eller 16,07% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på NOK 1,7 milliarder eller 1,06% sammenlignet med NOK 159,7 milliarder i 2020. NOK 829,8 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på NOK 65,0 milliarder eller 8,50% sammenliknet med NOK 764,8 milliarder kroner i 2020. NOK 13,0 milliarder brukes til fakturering og NOK 0,3 milliarder for e-penger.

Kredittkort i Norge 2019-2020

I 2020 har Norge en befolkning på 5,37 millioner med et BNP (bruttonasjonalprodukt) på 3.410 milliarder kroner. Dette tilsvarer NOK 635.009 av BNP per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Luxembourg.

Pr. 31. desember 2020 er det 12.905.000 betalingskort utstedt i Norge (2,40 kort per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Storbritannia), en nedgang på 772.000 eller 5,64% sammenlignet med 13.677.000 i 2019. Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 20.189.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 12.905.000 kort. Det er 5.296.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2020, en nedgang på 1.084.000 eller 15,52% sammenlignet med 6.344.000 i 2019. Kort med debetfunksjon redusere med 235.000 eller 1,60% til 14.495.000 i 2020, sammenlignet med 14.730.000 i 2019.

For 2020 var det 2.446,10 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (455,51 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en nedgang på 148,80 millioner eller 5,73% sammenlignet med 2.594,90 millioner i 2019. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.423,20 millioner for varekjøp, mens 23,00 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 268,50 millioner eller 10,98% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en nedgang på 40,20 millioner eller 13,02% sammenliknet med 308,70 millioner i 2019. 2.166,00 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en nedgang på 102,80 millioner eller 4,53% sammenlignet med 2.268,80 millioner i 2019. 11,5 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,3 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2020 er € 87,40 milliarder i verdi (16.276 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en nedgang på 4,65 milliarder euro eller 5,05% sammenligner til € 92,05 milliarder i 2019. Dette betyr også € 35,73 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 14,90 millioner euro eller 17,05% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en nedgang på € 3,27 milliarder eller 18,00% sammenlignet med € 18,17 milliarder i 2019. € 71,34 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 0,59 milliarder eller 0,82% sammenligner til € 71,93 milliarder i 2019. € 1,16 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,02 milliarder for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2020 er NOK 936,9 milliarder (NOK 174.469 per innbygger), en nedgang på NOK 49,9 milliarder eller 5,06% sammenliknet med NOK 986,8 milliarder i 2019. Dette utgjør også NOK 382,99 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales NOK 159,7 milliarder eller 17,05% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en nedgang på NOK 35,1 milliarder eller 18,02% sammenlignet med NOK 194,8 milliarder i 2019. NOK 764,8 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en nedgang på NOK 6,3 milliarder eller 0,82% sammenliknet med NOK 771,1 milliarder kroner i 2019. NOK 12,4 milliarder brukes til fakturering og NOK 0,2 milliarder for e-penger.

Kredittkort i Norge 2018-2019

I 2019 har Norge en befolkning på 5,33 millioner med et BNP (bruttonasjonalprodukt) på 3.568 milliarder kroner. Dette tilsvarer NOK 669.418 av BNP per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Luxembourg.

Pr. 31. desember 2019 er det 13.677.000 betalingskort utstedt i Norge (2,57 kort per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Storbritannia), en økning på 403.000 eller 3,04% sammenlignet med 13.274.000 i 2018. Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 21.487.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 13.677.000 kort. Det er 6.344.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2019, en økning på 18.000 eller 0,28% sammenlignet med 6.326.000 i 2018. Kort med debetfunksjon øker med 569.000 eller 4,02% til 14.730.000 i 2019, sammenlignet med 14.161.000 i 2018.

For 2019 var det 2.594,90 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (486,85 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en økning på 119,10 millioner eller 4,81% sammenlignet med 2.475,80 millioner i 2018. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.554,40 millioner for varekjøp, mens 40,60 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 308,70 millioner eller 11,90% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en økning på 44,40 millioner eller 16,80% sammenliknet med 264,30 millioner i 2018. 2.268,80 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en økning på 78,10 millioner eller 3,57% sammenlignet med 2.190,70 millioner i 2018. 17,1 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,3 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2019 er € 100,18 milliarder i verdi (18.795 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en økning på 3,24 milliarder euro eller 3,34% sammenligner til € 96,94 milliarder i 2018. Dette betyr også € 38,61 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 19,78 millioner euro eller 19,74% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på € 2,72 milliarder eller 15,95% sammenlignet med € 17,06 milliarder i 2018. € 78,28 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 0,86 milliarder eller 1,11% sammenligner til € 77,42 milliarder i 2018. € 2,10 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,02 milliarder for e-penger.

Kvartalsvis statistikk for kredittkort i Norge 2019

31. mars 2019, var det registrert totalt 6.150.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 62,939 millioner transaksjoner i første kvartal 2019 (januar – mars). Hele 43,372 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 36,757 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,010 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har redusert med 7,692 milliarder kroner, eller 15,06%, sammenlignet med 4. kvartal i 2018. Dette samsvarer også nedgangen i antall transaksjoner.

30. juni 2019, var det registrert totalt 5.910.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 72,096 millioner transaksjoner i sekund kvartal 2019 (april – juni). Hele 49,095 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 42,085 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,368 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 5,723 milliarder kroner, eller 13,20%, sammenlignet med 1. kvartal i 2019. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det første halvåret i 2019, var det registrert totalt 135,035 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 92,467 milliarder kroner i verdi.

30. september 2019, var det registrert totalt 5.759.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 76,839 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2019 (juli – september). Hele 50,774 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 43,273 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,838 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 1,679 milliarder kroner, eller 3,42%, sammenlignet med 2. kvartal i 2019. Dette er i samsvar med nedgangen av antall transaksjoner. Under det ni måneder av i 2019, var det registrert totalt 211,874 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 143,241 milliarder kroner i verdi.

31. desember 2019, var det registrert totalt 5.730.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 75,861 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2019 (oktober – desember). Hele 51,308 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 42,677 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 7,920 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 0,543 milliarder kroner, eller 5,99%, sammenlignet med 3. kvartal i 2019. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det tolv måneder av i 2019, var det registrert totalt 287,735 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 194,549 milliarder kroner i verdi.

Pr. 31. desember 2018 er det 13.274.000 betalingskort utstedt i Norge (2,50 kort per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa i tillegg til Storbritannia), en nedgang på 2.481.000 eller 15,75% sammenlignet med 15.755.000 i 2017. Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 20.988.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 13.274.000 kort. Det er 6.326.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2018, en nedgang på 538.000 eller 7,84% sammenlignet med 6.864.000 i 2017. Kort med debetfunksjon redusere med 3.904.000 eller 21,61% til 14.161.000 i 2018, sammenlignet med 18.065.000 i 2017.

For 2018 var det 2.475,80 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (467,13 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en økning på 113,60 millioner eller 4,81% sammenlignet med 2.362,20 millioner i 2017. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.429,00 millioner for varekjøp, mens 46,80 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 264,30 millioner eller 10,68% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en økning på 23,10 millioner eller 9,58% sammenliknet med 241,20 millioner i 2017. 2.190,70 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en økning på 91,00 millioner eller 4,33% sammenlignet med 2.099,70 millioner i 2017. 20,4 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,4 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2018 er € 99,47 milliarder i verdi (18.768 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en økning på 0,96 milliarder euro eller 0,97% sammenligner til € 98,51 milliarder i 2017. Dette betyr også € 40,18 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 17,50 millioner euro eller 17,59% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på € 0,55 milliarder eller 3,24% sammenlignet med € 16,95 milliarder i 2017. € 79,44 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 0,47 milliarder eller 0,60% sammenligner til € 78,97 milliarder i 2017. € 2,50 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,03 milliarder for e-penger.

31. mars 2018, var det registrert totalt 5.561.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 53,553 millioner transaksjoner i første kvartal 2018 (januar – mars). Hele 39,140 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 33,191 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 5,256 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har redusert med 3,870 milliarder kroner, eller 9,00%, sammenlignet med 4. kvartal i 2017. Dette samsvarer også nedgangen i antall transaksjoner.

30. juni 2018, var det registrert totalt 6.139.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 65,144 millioner transaksjoner i sekund kvartal 2018 (april – juni). Hele 49,355 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 41,603 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 7,043 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 10,215 milliarder kroner, eller 26,10%, sammenlignet med 1. kvartal i 2018. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det første halvåret i 2018, var det registrert totalt 118,697 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 88,495 milliarder kroner i verdi.

30. september 2018, var det registrert totalt 6.176.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 68,026 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2018 (juli – september). Hele 48,179 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 41,101 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,387 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har redusert med 2,882 milliarder kroner, eller 4,42%, sammenlignet med 2. kvartal i 2018. Dette er i samsvar med nedgangen av antall transaksjoner. Under det ni måneder av i 2018, var det registrert totalt 186,723 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 136,674 milliarder kroner i verdi.

Hele 51,064 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 42,848 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,593 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 2,885 milliarder kroner, eller 5,99%, sammenlignet med 3. kvartal i 2018. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det tolv måneder av i 2018, var det registrert totalt 259,249 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 187,738 milliarder kroner i verdi.

Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 25.381.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 15.755.000 kort. Det er 6.864.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2017, en økning på 408.000 eller 6,32% sammenlignet med 6.456.000 i 2016. Kort med debetfunksjon øker med 1.288.000 eller 7,68% til 18.065.000 i 2017, sammenlignet med 16.777.000 i 2016.

Sum kortbetalinger i volum og verdi
For 2017 var det 2.362,20 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (449,09 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en økning på 180,10 millioner eller 8,25% sammenlignet med 2.182,10 millioner i 2016. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.309,10 millioner for varekjøp, mens 53,10 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 241,20 millioner eller 10,21% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en økning på 39,40 millioner eller 19,52% sammenliknet med 201,80 millioner i 2016. 2.099,70 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en økning på 140,30 millioner eller 7,16% sammenlignet med 1.959,40 millioner i 2016. 20,9 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,4 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2017 er € 101,36 milliarder i verdi (19.270 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en økning på 5,87 milliarder euro eller 6,15% sammenligner til € 95,49 milliarder i 2016. Dette betyr også € 42,91 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 17,44 millioner euro eller 17,21% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på € 2,39 milliarder eller 15,88% sammenlignet med € 15,05 milliarder i 2016. € 81,25 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 3,39 milliarder eller 4,35% sammenligner til € 77,86 milliarder i 2016. € 2,65 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,03 milliarder for e-penger.

Ved utgangen av 2017 var det 162.585 salgssteder, som aksepterte BankAxept-kort, i 108.684 butikker og andre kjøpesentre.

31. mars 2017, var det registrert totalt 6.183.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 61,739 millioner transaksjoner i første kvartal 2017 (januar – mars). Hele 40,782 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 34,596 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 5,461 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har redusert med 2,045 milliarder kroner, eller 4,78%, sammenlignet med 4. kvartal i 2016. Dette samsvarer også nedgangen i antall transaksjoner.

30. juni 2017, var det registrert totalt 6.132.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 69,364 millioner transaksjoner i sekund kvartal 2017 (april – juni). Hele 46,078 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 39,619 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 5,706 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 5,296 milliarder kroner, eller 12,99%, sammenlignet med 1. kvartal i 2017. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det første halvåret i 2017, var det registrert totalt 131,103 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 86,860 milliarder kroner i verdi.

30. september 2017, var det registrert totalt 5.671.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 55,741 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2017 (juli – september). Hele 41,017 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 25,156 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 4,549 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har redusert med 5,061 milliarder kroner, eller 10,98%, sammenlignet med 2. kvartal i 2017. Dette er i samsvar med nedgangen av antall transaksjoner. Under det ni måneder av i 2017, var det registrert totalt 186,844 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 127,877 milliarder kroner i verdi.

31. desember 2017, var det registrert totalt 5.547.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 57,784 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2017 (oktober – desember). Hele 43,010 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 35,485 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,716 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 1,993 milliarder kroner, eller 4,86%, sammenlignet med 3. kvartal i 2017. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det tolv måneder av i 2017, var det registrert totalt 244,628 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 168,894 milliarder kroner i verdi.

Kredittkort i Norge 2015-2016

Mange kort har mer enn en betalingsfunksjon, f.eks. BankAxept kombinert med Visa eller MasterCard. Det var dermed nesten 23.791.000 betalingsfunksjoner på totalt utgitt 14.841.000 kort. Det er 6.456.000 kort med kredittfunksjon i Norge pr. 31. desember 2016, en økning på 271.000 eller 4,38% sammenlignet med 6.185.000 i 2015. Kort med debetfunksjon øker med 225.000 eller 1,36% til 16.777.000 i 2016, sammenlignet med 16.552.000 i 2015.

Sum kortbetalinger i volum og verdi
For 2016 var det 2.182,10 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner i Norge (418,83 transaksjoner per innbygger, en av de høyeste i Europa og i verden, som overstiger Finland og USA), en økning på 161,30 millioner eller 7,98% sammenlignet med 2.020,80 millioner i 2015. Av disse transaksjonene benyttes 2.121,20 millioner for varekjøp, mens 60,90 millioner brukes til kontantuttak. I mellomtiden er 201,80 millioner eller 9,25% betalt med kort med en kredittfunksjon, en økning på 22,60 millioner eller 12,61% sammenliknet med 179,20 millioner i 2015. 1.959,40 millioner kortbetalingstransaksjoner betales med kort med debetfunksjon, en økning på 139,30 millioner eller 7,65% sammenlignet med 1.820,10 millioner i 2015. 20,3 millioner brukes til fakturering og 0,6 millioner for e-penger.

De totale kortbetalingene for 2016 er € 95,90 milliarder i verdi (18.407 euro per innbygger, den høyeste i Europa), en økning på 3,83 milliarder euro eller 4,16% sammenligner til € 92,07 milliarder i 2015. Dette betyr også € 43,95 per kortbetalingstransaksjon. Av disse transaksjonene utbetales 15,11 millioner euro eller 15,77% av kort med kredittfunksjon, en økning på € 1,03 milliarder eller 7,32% sammenlignet med € 14,08 milliarder i 2015. € 78,19 milliarder i verdi betales med debetkort, en økning på € 2,85 milliarder eller 3,78% sammenligner til € 75,34 milliarder i 2015. € 2,56 milliarder brukes til fakturering og € 0,03 milliarder for e-penger.

Ved utgangen av 2016 var det 156.891 salgssteder, som aksepterte BankAxept-kort, i 115.750 butikker og andre kjøpesentre.

Den totale verdien har redusert med 4,091 milliarder kroner, eller 9,96%, sammenlignet med 4. kvartal i 2015. Dette samsvarer også nedgangen i antall transaksjoner.

30. juni 2016, var det registrert totalt 6.307.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 60,968 millioner transaksjoner i sekund kvartal 2016 (april – juni). Hele 42,112 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 35,850 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 5,576 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. Den totale verdien har økt med 5,145 milliarder kroner, eller 13,92%, sammenlignet med 1. kvartal i 2016. Dette er i samsvar med økningen av antall transaksjoner. Under det første halvåret i 2016, var det registrert totalt 113,984 millioner kredittkort transaksjoner, som genererte hele 79,079 milliarder kroner i verdi.

30. september 2016, var det registrert totalt 6.355.000 kredittkort i Norge og generalisert 64,616 millioner transaksjoner i tredje kvartal 2016 (juli – september). Hele 43,903 milliarder kroner var registrert fra transaksjoner, noe som utgjorde 36,939 milliarder kroner for kjøp, 6,206 milliarder kroner for kontantforskudd i minibank og resterende fra forhandlere. As at 31st December 2021, there are 12,864,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.39 cards per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides United Kingdom), a decrease of 41,000 or 0.32% compares to 12,905,000 in 2020. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 20,167,000 payment functions on the total 12,864,000 cards issued. There are 5,061,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2021, a decrease of 235,000 or 4.44% compares to 5,296,000 in 2020. Cards with debit function increase by 170,000 or 1.17% to 14,665,000 in 2021, compares to 14,495,000 in 2020.

Out of these transactions, €15.89 billions or 16.07% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €0.17 billions or 1.08% compares to €15.72 billions in 2020. €81.67 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €6.39 billions or 8.49% compares to €75.28 billions in 2020. €1.28 billions is used for billings and €0.03 billions for e-money.

For 2013, there are 1,752.30 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(346.99 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 125 millions or 7.68% compares to 1,627.30 millions in 2012. Out of these transactions, 1,670.80 millions are used for goods purchases, while 81.50 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 141.20 millions or 8.06% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 22.70 millions or 19.16% compares to 118.50 millions in 2012. This is despite the decrease in number of credit cards issued. 1,589.20 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 101.50 millions or 6.82% compares to 1,487.70 millions in 2012. This is inline with the growth in number of debit cards in 2013. 21.0 millions is used for billings and 1.1 millions for e-money.

The total card payments for 2013 is €99.27 billions in value(€19.66 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €4.40 billions or 4.64% compares to €94.87 billions in 2012. This also translates into €56.65 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €14.03 billions or 14.13% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €1.56 billions or 12.51% compares to €12.47 billions in 2012. €82.11 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €2.76 billions or 3.48% compares to €79.35 billions in 2012. €3.07 billions is used for billings and €0.05 billions for e-money.

At end-2013, there were 141,980 point-of-sale terminals that accepted BankAxept cards, in 110,282 retail outlets and other merchant locations.

The total card payments for 2013 is NOK775.3 billions in value(NOK153.52 thousands per capita), an increase of NOK34.4 billions or 4.64% compares to NOK740.9 billions in 2012. This also translates into NOK442.45 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, NOK109.6 billions or 14.14% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of NOK12.2 billions or 12.53% compares to NOK97.4 billions in 2012. NOK641.3 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of NOK21.6 billions or 3.49% compares to NOK619.7 billions in 2012. NOK24.0 billions is used for billings and NOK0.4 billions for e-money.

Quarterly Norway Credit Card Statistics 2013

As of 31st March 2013, there are 5,935,000 charge and credit cards in Norway, generating 34.783 million transactions for Quarter 1, 2013(January, February and March). NOK28.555 billions is recorded from the transactions which made up of NOK23.685 billion for purchases, NOK4.303 billions for cash advances from ATM and the rest is cash advances from retailers.

As of 30th June 2013, there are 6,202,000 charge and credit cards in Norway, generating 42.609 million transactions for Quarter 2, 2013(April, May and June). This is a significant increase of 7.826 millions or 22.50% transactions compares to Quarter 1.
NOK34.256 billions is recorded from the transactions which made up of NOK28.368 billion for purchases, NOK5.349 billions for cash advances from ATM and the rest is cash advance from retailers. The total value has increased by NOK5.701 billions or 19.96% compares to Q1, 2013, which is in accordance with the increase in number of transactions.

As of 30th September 2013, there are 5,967,000 charge and credit cards in Norway, generating 43.859 billion transactions for Quarter 3, 2013(July, August and September). NOK34.743 billions is recorded from the transactions which made up of NOK28.380 billion for purchases, NOK5.736 billions for cash advances from ATM and the rest is cash advance from retailers. For 9 months ended 30th September 2013, 121.251 million charge and credit cards transactions is recorded, generating NOK97.554 billions. NOK80.433 billions is for purchases and NOK15.388 billions is for cash advances from ATM.

As of 31st December 2013, there are 5,622,000 charge and credit cards in Norway, generating 44.920 billion transactions for Quarter 4, 2013(October, November and December). NOK34.269 billions is recorded from the transactions which made up of NOK28.649 billion for purchases, NOK5.049 billions for cash advances from ATM and the rest is cash advance from retailers. For 12 months ended 31st December 2013, 167.568 million charge and credit cards transactions is recorded, generating NOK132.909 billions. NOK109.960 billions is for purchases and NOK20.649 billions is for cash advances from ATM.

Credit Cards in Norway 2011-2012

As of 2012, Norway has a population of 4.99 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €396.92 billions(NOK2,965 billions). This translates into €79.54 thousands(NOK594.19 thousands) of GDP per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides Luxembourg.

As at 31st December 2012, there are 12,583,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.522 cards per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides United Kingdom), a small increase of 270,000 or 2.19% compares to 12,313,000 in 2011. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 19,795,000 payment functions on the total 12,583,000 cards issued. There are 5,603,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2012, an increase of 313,000 or 5.92% compares to 5,290,000 in 2011. Cards with debit function increase marginally by 56,000 or 0.41% to 13,620,000 in 2012, compares to 13,564,000 in 2011.

Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2012, there are 1,627.30 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(326.11 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 134.40 millions or 9.00% compares to 1,492.90 millions in 2011. Out of these transactions, 1,540.40 millions are used for goods purchases, while 86.90 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 118.5 millions or 7.28% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 21.2 millions or 21.79% compares to 97.3 millions in 2011. This is inline with the increase in number of credit cards issued. 1,487.70 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 112.30 millions or 8.16% compares to 1,375.40 millions in 2011. This is despite the slower growth in number of debit cards in 2012. 20.8 millions is used for billings and 0.2 millions for e-money.

The total card payments for 2012 is €99.18 billions in value(€19.88 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €6.22 billions or 6.69% compares to €92.96 billions in 2011. This also translates into €60.95 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €13.04 billions or 13.15% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €1.90 billions or 17.06% compares to €11.14 billions in 2011. €82.96 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €4.04 billions or 5.12% compares to €78.92 billions in 2011. €3.16 billions is used for billings and €0.01 billions for e-money.

At end-2012, there were 138,034 point-of-sale terminals that accepted BankAxept cards, in 105,726 retail outlets and other merchant locations.

The total card payments for 2012 is NOK740.9 billions in value(NOK148.48 thousands per capita), an increase of NOK46.5 billions or 6.70% compares to NOK694.4 billions in 2011. This also translates into NOK455.29 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, NOK97.4 billions or 13.15% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of NOK14.2 billions or 17.07% compares to NOK83.2 billions in 2011. NOK619.7 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of NOK30.2 billions or 5.12% compares to NOK589.5 billions in 2011. NOK23.6 billions is used for billings and NOK0.1 billions for e-money.

Credit Cards Fraud in Norway
In 2012, card fraud situation in Norway has been increasing. According to FNO, banks recorded NOK 135.15m in losses in 2012(about 0.02% of total turnover for Norwegian payment cards), an increase of NOK 12.43m or 10.13% compares to NOK 122.72m in 2011. This is mainly connected with misuse of counterfeit cards outside Norway(with credit card information stolen by, for example, “skimming” from the card’s magnetic stripe). However, there are fewer card fraud losses of this type in Norway as Norwegian POS terminals and ATMs register cards by reading a chip. Chips are more difficult to counterfeit than magnetic stripes and all Norwegian payment cards have been chip cards since the end of 2011.
Fraud losses where card information is used without the card being physically present(online/internet transaction) amounted to NOK 35.7m in 2012, an increase of NOK 11.51m or 47.58% compares to NOK 24.19m in 2011.

Credit Cards in Norway 2010-2011

As of 2011, Norway has a population of 4.92 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €358.41 billions(NOK2,792 billions). This translates into €72.85 thousands(NOK567.48 thousands) of GDP per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides Luxembourg.

As at 31st December 2011, there are 12,313,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.503 cards per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides United Kingdom), a small increase of 123,000 or 1.01% compares to 12,190,000 in 2010. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 19,447,000 payment functions on the total 12,313,000 cards issued. There are 5,290,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2011, a decrease of 229,000 or 4.15% compares to 5,519,000 in 2010. Cards with debit function increase by 596,000 or 4.6% to 13,564,000 in 2011, compares to 12,968,000 in 2010.

For 2011, there are 1,492.90 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(302.82 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 124.10 millions or 9.07% compares to 1,368.80 millions in 2010. Out of these transactions, 1,400.60 millions are used for goods purchases, while 91.50 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 97.3 millions or 6.52% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 18.2 millions or 23.01% compares to 79.1 millions in 2010. This is despite the decrease in number of credit cards issued. 1,375.40 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 104.80 millions or 8.25% compares to 1,270.60 millions in 2010. This is despite the slower growth in number of debit cards in 2011. 19.5 millions is used for billings.

The total card payments for 2011 is €89.14 billions in value(€18.12 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €5.22 billions or 6.22% compares to €83.92 billions in 2010. This also translates into €59.71 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €10.68 billions or 12.08% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €1.45 billions or 15.71% compares to €9.23 billions in 2010. €75.67 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €3.6 billions or 5% compares to €72.07 billions in 2010. €2.79 billions is used for billings.

At end-2011, there were 130,397 point-of-sale terminals that accepted BankAxept cards, in 100,758 retail outlets and other merchant locations.

Credit Cards Fraud in Norway
In 2011, card fraud situation in Norway has been improving. According to FNO, banks recorded NOK 125.7m in losses connected with misuse of payment cards in 2011, a decrease of NOK 74.3m or 37.15% compares to NOK 200m in 2010. There was a particular decline in “skimming”, i.e. card fraud where data from the magnetic stripe is copied. Main reasons for the decline in card fraud, according to FNO, are the increased use of chips, regional blocking, mobile notification and effective police work. Losses in 2011 are primarily due to card data stolen in Norway and used on counterfeit cards outside Norway. Many of these losses are also due to lost or stolen cards that are misused with PIN codes in Norway.


Credit Cards in Norway 2009-2010

As of 2010, Norway has a population of 4.87 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €323.35 billions(NOK2,590 billions). This translates into €66.40 thousands(NOK513.83 thousands) of GDP per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides Luxembourg.

As at 31st December 2010, there are 12,190,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.503 cards per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides United Kingdom), an increase of 546,000 or 4.69% compares to 11,644,000 in 2009. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 19,015,000 payment functions on the total 12,190,000 cards issued. There are 5,519,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2010, a small increase of 13,000 or 0.24% compares to 5,506,000 in 2009. Cards with debit function increase significantly by 1,179,000 or 10% to 12,968,000 in 2010 compares to 11,789,000 in 2009.

Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2010, there are 1,368.80 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(281.07 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 109.10 millions or 8.66% compares to 1,259.7 millions in 2009. Out of these transactions, 1,273.50 millions are used for goods purchases, while 95.30 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 79.1 millions or 5.78% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 12.9 millions or 19.49% compares to 66.2 millions in 2009. This is despite the stagnant growth in number of credit cards issued. 1,270.60 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 98.5 millions or 8.40% compares to 1,172.10 millions in 2009. This is inline with the 9.12% growth in number of debit cards in 2010. 19.1 millions is used for billings.

The total card payments for 2010 is €81.61 billions in value(€16.76 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €3.57 billions or 4.57% compares to €78.04 billions in 2009. This also translates into €59.6 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €8.98 billions or 11% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €0.69 billions or 8.32% compares to €8.29 billions in 2009. €70.09 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €3.2 billions or 4.78% compares to €66.89 billions in 2009. €2.56 billions is used for billings.

At end-2010, there were 125,684 point-of-sale terminals that accepted BankAxept cards at 97,722 different sites, that is in shops and on the premises of other payees. The market may soon be nearing saturation, since the increase in the number of installed terminals has been moderate in the past few years

Norwegian payment cards with embedded mircochips and chip-enabled terminals began to appear in 2009. The changeover to chip cards continues. The purpose of chip cards is to reduce the risk that payment card data are copied onto a counterfeit card. The industry aims to phase out cards that only feature a magnetic stripe by end-2011.

As of 2009, Norway has a population of 4.81 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €278.35 billions(NOK2,430 billions). This translates into €57.35 thousands(NOK505.20 thousands) of GDP per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides Luxembourg.

As at 31st December 2009, there are 11,644,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.42 cards per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides United Kingdom, an increase of 1,015,000 or 9.55% compares to 10,629,000 in 2008. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 17,837,000 payment functions on the total 11,644,000 cards issued. There are 5,506,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2009, a significant increase of 1,168,000 or 26.92% compares to 4,338,000 in 2008. Cards with debit function decrease by 110,000 or 0.92% to 11,789,000 in 2009 compares to 11,899,000 in 2008.

Total Card Payments in Volume and Value
For 2009, there are 1,259.70 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(261.89 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 77.7 millions or 6.5% compares to 1,182.00 millions in 2008. Out of these transactions, 1,159.50 millions are used for goods purchases, while 100.10 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 66.20 millions or 5.26% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 9.70 millions or 17.17% compares to 56.5 millions in 2008. This is inline with the significant increase in number of credit cards issued. 1,172.10 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 69.3 millions or 6.28% compares to 1,102.80 millions in 2008. This shows the 1% dropped in number of debit cards does not affect the debit function payment card transactions though. 21.4 millions is used for billings.

The total card payments for 2009 is €71.60 billions in value(€14.89 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €1.84 billions or 2.64% compares to €69.76 billions in 2008. This also translates into €56.84 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €7.61 billions or 10.63% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €0.97 billions or 14.61% compares to €6.64 billions in 2008. €61.37 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €1.13 billions or 1.88% compares to €60.24 billions in 2008. €2.62 billions is used for billings.

At end-2009, there were 122,359 point-of-sale terminals that accepted BankAxept cards at 96,152 different locations and the number has increased by approximately 10% each year over the past three years. As point-of-sale terminals become more widespread, users have increased freedom to choose the payment instrument they find most suitable.

In 2009 over 21 000 cases of payment card fraud were recorded in Norway. This resulted in losses amounting to a total of NOK 215m, an increase of 8% on 2008 (FNO 2010). In 2009, payments using Norwegian payment cards totalled NOK 646bn. In other words, fraud amounts to approximately NOK 0.3 per NOK 1000 in payments. In the UK and Australia, corresponding figures were, respectively, GBP 1 per GBP 1000 and AUD 0.3 per AUD 1000.

Credit Cards Norway 2007-2008

As of 2008, Norway has a population of 4.75 millions with a GDP(gross domestic product) of €316.91 billions(NOK2,605 billions). This translates into €66.72 thousands(NOK548.42 thousands) of GDP per capita, one of the highest in Europe besides Luxembourg. Norway contributes 2.06% of the EU total GDP.

As at 31st December 2008, there are 10,629,000 payment cards issued in Norway(2.24 cards per capita, second highest after United Kingdom), an increase of 721,000 or 7.28% compares to 9,908,000 in 2007. Many cards have more than one payment function, e.g. BankAxept combined with Visa or MasterCard. There were thus almost 16,772,000 payment functions on the total 10,629,000 cards issued. There are 4,338,000 cards with credit function in Norway as at 31st December 2008, a small increase of 44,000 or 1.02% compares to 4,294,000 in 2007. Cards with debit function increase by 1,380,000 or 13.12% to 11,899,000 in 2008, compares to 10,519,000 in 2007.

For 2008, there are 1,182.00 millions of card payment transactions in Norway(248.84 transactions per capita, one of the highest in Europe and the world, surpassing Finland and United States), an increase of 111.30 millions or 10.40% compares to 1,070.70 millions in 2007. Out of these transactions, 1,075.60 millions are used for goods purchases, while 106.40 millions are used for cash withdrawals. Meanwhile, 56.50 millions or 4.78% is paid by cards with a credit function, a significant increase of 7.70 millions or 15.78% compares to 48.80 millions in 2007. 1,102.80 millions card payment transactions are paid by cards with debit function, an increase of 101.50 millions or 10.14% compares to 1,001.30 millions in 2007. 22.6 millions is used for billings. Norway total card payment transactions volume contributes 4.01% to the EU total number of transactions.

The total card payments for 2008 is €74.09 billions in value(€15.60 thousands per capita, the highest in Europe), an increase of €6.38 billions or 9.42% compares to €67.71 billions in 2007. This also translates into €62.68 per card payment transaction. Out of these transactions, €7.06 billions or 9.53% is paid by cards with a credit function, an increase of €0.98 billions or 16.12% compares to €6.08 billions in 2007. €63.98 billions in value is paid by debit cards, an increase of €5.14 billions or 8.74% compares to €58.84 billions in 2007. €3.05 billions is used for billings. Norway total card payment value contributes 3.67% to the EU total transactions value.

At the end of 2008, over 119,953 payment terminals that accepted BankAxept cards had been deployed at a total of 94,708 merchants, representing a growth of respectively 8% and 11% from the previous year. In 2008, over 30 millions payments using Norwegian payment cards were registered in connection with internet shopping. Payment cards are used for increasingly smaller amounts. While the average amount for a goods purchase using a payment card in 1999 was almost NOK 515, it was NOK 415 in 2008.
