The Orchard Bank Platinum MasterCard® is designed for those with an average or a limited credit history who would prefer a traditional credit card over a secured or prepaid card. This card does not have an application fee, but it does charge an average annual fee that is based on your credit history. This fee is very reasonable in comparison to the amount of fees you'd pay for most prepaid cards. The interest rate for purchases is average for this type of card, and standard cardholder benefits are also provided. In addition, cardholders can take advantage of a 0% introductory rate for purchases for six months. However, the best feature of this card is that it reports to all three credit bureaus. |
Cardholders Comment/Review/Rating "not a bad card to rebuild credit - cards initial credit limit is low, however this makes it easier to pay in full when used." ebd, 2/9/2007 "Coming off a bankruptcy - I lost all my credit with a bankruptcy (mostly from my business failure) and Orchard gave me a start and also three credit increases in a little over 2 years. They post payments and report to credit people on time. Great card to start rebuilding and maybe even after." Anne, 9/11/2006 "Best. Card. Ever. (for people with poor/no credit) - This card has MUCH lower fees than the other cards for people with poor or no credit. None of those monthly fees either, which are a real pain in the butt if you're not otherwise carrying a balance. Great card, and they gave me a chance fresh out of bankruptcy." BigSexy, 7/1/2006 "Orchard is the Bomb! I opened a platinum card three months ago- I cannot say one negative thing about this card! Of course you pay the fees...that's the penalty of a sub-prime card. Website is fabulous! Quick to post payment...I make my online, and within 24 hours balance has been adjusted." Kell, 6/2/2006 "The best "poor credit" card - After my bankruptcy, Orchard gave me a chance. So did Premier. Premier had a lot of hidden fees. In addition, it "cost me money" to pay my Premier card on line. Orchard, because it's a part of a larger bank - HSBC, feels more like a "real" credit card company. If you understand you have to "work your way back to a good credit standing", the little things won't bother you about having this card. If it's a choice between this one and PREMIER.... choose this one HANDS DOWN!" T, 5/10/2006 ""Good card, well worth it...but watch out for the marketing. So I applied for this card as part of my conquest to re-establish my credit after my Chapter 13. The strategy being I would leave these cards open for one year (and my BK will be discharged at that time), then pay them in full and close all but 2 - this one, and my Purpose Advantage Discover card. I applied for this card, not really expecting much since I had a bankruptcy and fairly bad credit to boot. To my surprised I was approved for the Platinum card. I guess Gold and Silver are for folks who have absolutely no good credit or maybe no credit at all. So anyway I got the card and noticed it had a fairly decent credit limit of $300, but it also had other perks not normally associated with a "bad credit" type card. Like purchase protection in the event of fraud or dissatisfaction, and a discounted AutoVantage subscription offer (which comes with $40 worth of free gas, mind), and other type perks. It also lets you pay online, either on a schedule or one-off payments, directly through their website. This is great, because my bank refuses to allow me to do Bill Pay and it's hard to keep up with all of my expenses sometimes. The website is clean and neat, easy to understand, easy to navigate. One other thing I was appreciative of about this card is the fact that the bank doesn't arbitrarily assume auth hold amounts. For example, I had a card some time ago where my bank would hold $50 at every pay-at-pump transaction. The corporate office of the gas depot informed me that they do an initial auth of only $1, then charge the final amount when you hang up the pump. But my bank at the time made the decision to just hold an arbitrary amount. Orchard Bank doesn't do that. And yeah, I know it's to help prevent you from going over, but that's MY responsibility to manage my account. What if I only get $20 worth of gas? $50 shouldn't be held on the card, and I appreciate Orchard Bank for this. The other good thing - and in my opinion the advantage over other cards like First Premier - is that Orchard Bank does not hold payments without cause. If you make a payment, they credit your account, even though they're really holding the check/ACH and verifying. If the money doesn't go through, they just charge it back. The next time you make a -payment via that account, they'll put a hold on the funds for about 4-5 days. Still, much better than First Premier and their "we're holding your payment for 21 days even though your bank says we got paid" mess. HOWEVER...and this is for all of those people who complain without a real good reason... Don't think that this card is all peaches and gravy. For one, they'll hit you up for close to half of your credit amount when you open the card. Even though it will say $300 available once you get approved, by the time you activate the card, that amount will slice in half. There's also a section where you can request a credit line increase - which defeats the purpose, since it says clearly in the Terms that you cannot. My opinion? This is a good card, and well worth hanging on to for the long haul. Currently it's the card I'm most comfortable with, and I've got 5 of them. Out of all 5 only this company has done me right as far as managing a credit card account. I don't know if the Gold and Silver are the same, they might not be. All I know is, if you get approved for the Platinum, It's a great card to have. Just don't expect the bank to be handing you money." ReVeLaTeD, 4/26/2006 |
